OK, I searched the whole place about it... The best post I found was that:
http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/17615/forum/2
I'm planning to buy a small sound system to make some small parties. I wanna know what is the difference between speakers with "8 ohms" input impedance and "4 ohms" input impedance.
What is the difference in quality? Is any of these better than the other? What sounds better? What are the advantages and drawbacks of each choice.
Please understand I want to know the impedance impact on the quality of a sound system.
Thank you.
Respect!

Thank you for the replies!
So there's not difference in sound quality, only more protection in the case of an overload? Are you sure?
Someone told me 8 ohms sounds better... Can I stay with 4 ohms and have the same sound quality of 8 ohms? Anyone confirm?
Respect!

yes in 8ohm they play better cos they dont play so loud so there is no distortion in the signal sound is fuller and clearer
when you switc an amp that has 40hm indepadency the same speaker s will permorm much louder but with more hiiisshh in the sound and ofcourse less clear
this is what i know more opinions welcome maybe im wronge

if your amp say 8 ohm dont go below it, it could burn the amp, i think 6 ohm speakers are good for both 4 and 8 ohm amps

Assuming you're not going to be bridging the amps, get amps that have the same impedance output as the speakers' input impedance so you get optimum power transfer.

14-year old e-tard, I was waiting for your reply here, I know you have some knowledge about it, please share it and tell me what is best for me to buy.
I'll buy the amplifiers and speakers with the same impedance, but what to buy a 4 ohms system or a 8 ohms system?
Thank you all again.
Respect!

I doesn't really matter as long as you get the same impedance. I'd go for 8 ohms. In case you ever change speakers later. From the experience I've had working with P.A.s all/most of the big systems are at 8 ohms. So there is a bit more to choose from.
Just make sure you never drive a small enough load that will require lots of current from the amps, subsequently blowing them.
Dunno how big of a system you're going to get, but you'll need a 30-31 band EQ to make sure you EQ the rig to different enviroments. A cheap comp/limiter will also help deal with "naughty" DJs and if you have money to spare a nice omnidrive is the tits and will make life much easier.

Put a 4 ohm in ya car :12v
Put a 8 ohm on the floor :230V
Put eny other ohms ya have on ya tounge
Get it...
Unless you really want to be an Enviromentalist and run your 4 ohm floor system off the sun
:::::::with 12 V its free:::::::

another thought to add....
if uve got more power on the amps than the speakers, ull have to give less output from amp to speakers, even for a full sound, thus reducing distortion frm amp.
my point being, buy an amp with more power output than speakers. |

hhhmm strange i knew exactly the opposite!
i think if you have an amp with more watts than the speakers its possible to burn them cos of to much power!!
example - amp 800w 8ohm per channel needs aprox a speaker of 1000-1200w 8ohm so you can give lots of volume and dont destroy your speakers and have maximum power and quality!
ofcourse i could be seriusly mistaken please correct me if im wronge

To have an underpowered amp is a very common reason for blown speakers.
It might not seem logical, but what happens if the amp have too less power is that you tend to push it too hard resulting in clipping.
A clipped signal can be very destructive, especially to the tweeters.
So the advice I always got has been to always use an amp with more than enough power.
About impendance, I'm not really a PA specialist.
But what i understand an 8 ohm system would generally sound better. But as always opinions differ. 4 ohm could give a more compressed sound which some people seem to like.
The distortion should be lower though on an 8 ohm system.
Of course at the cost at using double the wattage for the amps.
