hello,
i am curious about buying a sound system. We would initially like something small but powerful, just for renegade type parties with about 50-100 people, but we are interested in something that can be built upon as we have more money to invest... is this possible? can anyone offer some suggestions as to what types/brands of systems to look into?
just trying to gather some info at this point so any advice would be helpful thanks

hi meghan, mackie SRM450 monitor is so obvious, but the good thing of this items are flexible, could be use as monitor (in future) and could be a loud system fot those number of people. Not the best one but do a good job. It could also used for both, loud system and monitor facing the audience, easy to carry, no need amp, tuff body. I went to the floating moving boat part once with strong win, this bad boys still blasting. The best would be if they accompanied by the good subs but I am not crazy for the mackie SWA1501 subs and I dont see this subs is a good candidate for buld-up upon. All depend of the $$$. I see the great sound of SRM450 together with two NEXO CD-12 Subs. Or if I win the 3 number stright lotto, i just get the chunky NEXO Alpha E system.
Next Choice will be EV (Electrovoice Eliminator) Systems.
If you want to support your area production, Apogee base in CA produce a decent and affordable systems such Artist Systems 8000 or 8000T (Trim Version) or even more affordable Artist Systems 4200.
For the amp, I will always trust Camco Vortex series.
Good luck Meghan, I am sure you know more better info surround you.

Try to audition these too,
Electro-Voice Plasma P1 Powered Speakers (600Watts RMS; 132dB SPL)
Electro-Voice Plasma P2 Powered Subwoofer (550Watts RMS; 132dB SPL)
Electro-Voice SxA250 Powered Speakers (200Watt RMS; 126dB SPL)
Electro-Voice SxA180 Powered Subwoofer (300Watt RMS; 126dB SPL)

PS: Active or powered speaker systems are'nt always the best choice to build on as they are not as flexible as Passive speaker and Amplifier setups.
