Hey. First of all, i now have the chance to buy a Nord Lead for 600euro, is that a good price for a second hand?
I'm not quite sure how hardware works since i've only worked with software until now.
My equipment except a good computer and some nice monitors is:
Juli@ Soundcard with Midi in and Out
Soundcraft COMPACT 4 Mixer
So, as i said after 2 years of softwareing i feel like its time to at least have one hw synth. But i really have no idea how it works with sending sound from the synth to the computer and how to arrange the patches and all that? do i need a sampler or sequences or something like that? I use Ableton Live btw. Just explain everything i need to know please.

Here in Holland I see them go around second hand for between 500-600 Euros.
But that's mostly including an extra memory card.
Without that card I would say 500 or 550 max.
We're talking about the Nord Lead 2 keys, I assume?
As for a rack, it should be atleast 100 Euros cheaper. |

Bit expensive. By the way you can get a nord lead 1 (rack) for as little as 150 quid.

Oh really. Better look more deeply into this then.
Anyway, I still wonder how it all works. Do i need a sequencer or can i just connect it to my soundcard and use Ableton to arrange patches and stuff? Im lost |

and if your soundcard has a midi in/out, you'll have everything you need. just connect the lead's audio out puts in your soundcard's audio inputs and you are good to go

Once you pple are speaking abou the Nords.
Let me coment something:
I came about to buy a Nord Rack 2x a phew days ago..
After doing a little research on the item and other stuff that i could get for about the same budget or a phew pounds more, i came to the conclusion that, the nord rack 2x doesn't have the sound i am looking for...
Before you jump on me and make reference of all the artists that have used the Nords, Let me explain please..
I have just started to write music digitally, so only virtual stuff... (i have now a necesety and possibility to buy a real analog synth)
I love the sound and caracter of analog synths, and listening to the demo sounds and songs from the Nord rack 2x on the Clavia website, i found the sounds normal, i'd rather use it than my softsynths, BUT...it's not what i tought it was.. doesn't have that dirty, real cruch.. rrrhhhrhrhh...
Maybe it's because it's Virtual Analog, it uses digital technology to control the internal sound...
Can you tell me what you think, please...
Do you have audio examples that surprise me?
Peace

Get yourself an Evolver Desktop, (only if you really know what you're doing with a synth)
other than that, analog is generally expensive...
My dream is a Polivox, tried one out sometime ago, omfg!
Problem is, it was 1000 bux!
and here we go again...

I think u can get the nord sound really good its all about synthesis knowledge, virus is also virtual analog (+ some other synthesis methods) and sounds amazing.
Somehow i can get ur point, each synth wether hardware or virtual has a character of its own, perhaps the nord doesnt have the character/sound ur looking for. i really suggest u to spend more time with the nord until u realize u can't get more from it (according to ur skills). |
