no the hartmann neuron would definitly not be what he wants... he'll simply end up wastin a ton of cash and will not give him what he wants in the end...
it could be done but be prepare to bust some ass programming the synth, creating models etc.
it's really more of a machine for someone who already has the bunch... that was practicly my last synth that i purchased... and i own a nord 2, virus c, waldorf pulse,
alesis micron, roland jp8000, roland mc505, motif,
emu virtuoso and planet earth, dave smith evolver.
see the neuron is not like the synths mentioned before..
its really a special synth but it wouldn't do justice all by itself like some of the one's mentioned above...
the neuron excels in drones, atmosheres, pads,
hybrid synths, and efx... but no arps since it doesn't have an apergiator nor solo mode nor portamento..
u see what im talking about. now if u wanted a arp on the neuron u would haave to create a model with the arp already in it..

in other words the neuron is a special machine not for everyone... and requires lots of love for it to be of any use if ur creating ur own sounds and models...
since in some ways u have to create multisamples with velocity zones etc... but once u got it down and you've done ur homework watchout it'll probably spank all of the other synths out of their encasing's
LOL!!!

plus in addition for those who don't know it is a unfinished product but this i'll tell all of yous
if this baby would have been 100% complete forget about it. Theres no competition perhaps only on the bass side of things...

i think he'll like and will be better off with korg karma if it's the arps he wants so bad or the waldorf synts for that harsh teckno , industrial edge which they definitly have my waldorf sounds sterile as fuck like a cold icecube but in a goodway it's something bout it
i sometimes don't turn it on but theres days that thing creeps up and just rips the track...
would have been nice if it were poly!

also check out the evolver or the poly evolver 2 off the chain synths i love it!!!!

not much talk bout em here on this forum but i would definitly consider it before some of the other ones mention in here. i got one like i stated and at times i feel it rips a virus in two... of course virus is more flexible but still the tones the evolver makes are sick... and most of the time u cant tell its monophonic heh heh now thats cool plus u don't need it to be washed with effects to make it sound good like some synths so in that case its alot like the nords they just sound good with or without efx...

hopefully my respondse will enlighten you in ur decision which ever might be... but just go to the store and try em out urself but please don't knock in just 15-30 mins of jerking around with it...
the sales guy told me he wasn't thrilled bout nor was it a big seller at the store... i said fuck it and i took it
and boy was that guy wrong ... he probably has one and don't want others to catch on how frsh they sound... Evolver that is encase i lost u there lol

peace mate and good luck with ur new synth!!!!
BOOOM

i had read there was a lot of crossover between the virus and waldorf synths. when waldorf went belly up i think a few of the waldorf guys went to access?

i have been thinking about getting another synth and had been looking at a waldorf but i already have a virus so dont want something thats going to cross into similar territory. do you reckon a waldorf is different enough from a virus to make it worth having both? thanks

I hope that thisone would make the difference !

I've got a micro Q and yeah... pretty different synths from a whole bunch of angles. Waldorfs oscillators have more bite. Just cleaner and harsher than a virus. Harder to program too I've found. Has a great modulation matrix but some things that you would get away with on a virus just sound like digital hell on a microQ.

Also, waldorfs have trouble sounding organic and tend to be more techy and industrial sounding. (sounds like that what your after) The sound quality though is pure class... dont know if its the DA converters or just the nature of it, but very bright and present sounding synth, even more so than my NL3.

Also the arpeggiator is pretty sick. Fully programmable. If I had the chance though I'd go for a Q, just for the extra knobs.
