You get back what you give out, he basically told every Psy artist that uses world music in their style (Exempli Gratia: baumann, entheogenic, schpongle, elea, kaya etc) to sod off with their casio and stop ruining world music.

Ok my first response was pretty immature and rude.
I'll try to say it better:
Music is a choice, like any form of art it sometimes offends some and to others it is considered to be pure beauty.
I find this in every form form desing to painting to sculptures to music etc.
While it is find to give negative feed back, and this can be put into life practises as week, you should always give some constructive feedback as well.
For example I would say that whilst and overuse of Indian samples in chillout music can becom somewhat annoying, there are many examples such as Shpongle and Entheogenic, that show how it can done well and those who wish to use such samples could look at those acts to enhance their own sound.
In the end it is very easy, if you donlt like a style of art don't buy it or look at it or listen to it.
I don't like a lot of pop music therefor I avoid it at all times, it makes me happy, and I don't have the immature urge to bag it out!

While we're on the topic, why don't we point out some GOOD uses of world music in chillout?
As a recent example, I think the Liquid Stranger remix of "Journey" by Bombay Dub Orchestra is excellent. |

I'd say everything on Dakini Records, Backroom Beats and Liquid Sound Design.
Entheogenic does it well, but yes they could vary their sound a bit.
Shpongle & Ott do a good job.
The Infinity Project and The Mystery Of The Yeti series.
Bom shankur!

A bit provocative post from Ocelot, but something I can agree with.
I used to love psyambient in my early 20's, but now little older, I find myself listening to less and less of psy-chill/ambient music coming from the psy scene, and much more other kinds of ambient. Some of that I find more mature and psychedelic.
Shpongle is well mixed, but quite boring and I personally really can't stand Entheogenic. I usually cringe when I hear nice synthlines ruined with badly fitting ethnic singing samples. I can appreciate real singer performing original stuff on top of the music, but ripping sample cd's is an instant turn off for me. But hey, many people, including talented artists, love that stuff. I have no right to judge anyone's taste. |

I've hunted down so much ambient/chilled music from around the globe that it's ridculous... I'm bordering aroun 1, 000cd' of the stuf now... and I still find to this day that Dakini Records is the only stuff that I listen to on a regular basis!

mmmmm I think out of their entire catalogue only 1 track annoys me:
Bageshree - "Bhakti" of Sky Dancing Vol. 3 as it has the "Our Father" prayer in it and having been brought up by strict catholics, anything to do with it in music irks me... I don't mind hindu, muslim, buddhism or whatever, but catholicsm just gets me...

Indeed!I don't like OTT, not anymore.. His latest tracks have great musical backround but the overuse of indian vocals is very annoying and destroy the tracks! Only Shpongle and Eat Static use some indian vocals but in controled doses
|
|
I also got tired of his indian sounds nowadays. Would have preferred if he had gotten more into the direction of "Joyful Wonder" or the remixes he did for Entheogenic.
Still he had some nice tracks like "The Queen of All Everything" on his last album.
