I've seen this hinted at a few threads but no real thread really dedicated (that i found) to this subject.

is there a major diffrence in quality using a home cd-rw at diffrent burning speeds?
if so, then what is the suggested one and why? what is bad about the other speeds...

ive seen people talk about 8X being the best, why? my cdrw can go twice as fast... should i not?

Theoretically, there is no reason why slow burning speeds would make a better burning.

It's even possible that faster burning speeds will be better because the TOC of the CD is closed while it's "hot", and the data is still fresh.

But those are just speculations.

Yes, supposedely there is.
One of the most known technicians in Israel told me that there is in fact difference between low speed burning and high speed. Also there is a difference between different Media brands.
I write Audio at 4x max. Burnt once a cd with 40x and deffinately heard the distorted hi freqs.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

yeah...it s better to burn at low speed...
this may sounds very weird cause there is only 0 n 1, but at low speed the laser just burns sharper/deeper...( chkd this using a atomic-force-microscope ). made this with 4x n 48x speed ( ...my modern crap-burner can t burn at 1x anymore...).
however...burning at lower rates increase the possibilitie of burn-error = aborted burning due to the fact that some pc calculate other stuff in the background.
though...on sennheiser hd 25-1 i can t hear any difference...but maybe some players may play it n other can t...

in the different brands i m interested too...can u write them down plz ?

Exactly what Medirium written, i just couldn't put it in such good words.
Little addition though...
The higher error rate created because the burning is done at huge heat and the time that needed for the holes in the media to form correctly is not existing. So the holes sometimes form uncorrectly.
BTW if you burn the tunes as PC *.wav files they will not be harmed because the PC CD format uses better error correction.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me
