Hey people, I am looking for some honest opinions from people who have been to Burning Man. How was your experience?

My girlfriend is always nagging me she wants to go and obviously I am intersted too...but is it worth it? Is it really a mind blowing psychedlic experience or is it just too big? Has it become diluted by drunk springbreak achetype folk?
What Ive seen and heard second hand have been mixed opinions...
Please give me your experiences in comparison to other festivals and general impressions. Does it top the biggest festivals in Europe/South America in terms of psychedelic energy?(not talking about the music but the vibe and psy-flair). Is it overated?

It is not a psytrance festival...
Apples to Oranges not realy a psychedelic vibe more of a jaw droped caint beleive what I'm seeing vibe.
If you like art... like room sized art driving by you, then you'd love it.
If you dont like it hot or caint stand being dirty for more than 1 night dont go.
If your looking for Psytrance it will be an on and off thing and bring a bike or you'll spend more time walking to find trance then enjoying your self, also dont expect there to be a stage rocking music the whole time either they usualy stop during the day .
Only go if your looking to have a "new" experience, its a whole new world out there at the Burn.

I always say if you have not been you SHOULD go at least once and soon befor it gets any worse.

Dont be fooled... tons of cops like everyware! If your being dumb they will see you and fine you.
Do not take anything illegal away from the burn leave it all at the gate when you leave the clean up crew will enjoy it during clean up for you. NV is no joke they will fuck you anyway they can. Please listen to me I grew up there I know what I'm talking about.

Stay away from ELKO!!!
NV highway patrol training grounds, like 2 cops for every person NORMALY the month befor and the month after the burn there is even more.
DO NOT STAY IN ELKO!!!

If all that dident scare you off then go be carefull and I hope I see you on the other side!

at least once and multiple times if you live near by and current year is 2000.
well the f__kers did finally get me in there speeding trap but lucky for me I was smart enough to take a swim in last river passed so no smell to give away hidden goodies. Other friends not so lucky and end up behind bars.
by my 4th time I was over it but was taking my sister and friend who where visiting from NZ. they were into the house and breaks or what ever it was and had a great time.
tripping balls to Penta sunrise in the desert is unforgetable.

I say go. Last year was my virgin Burn, and I barely got out of camp due to being ill prepared for whiteout conditions. Still, for the first time that I can remember, I had absolutely no obligations for an entire week. A whole week of waking up and saying "what do I WANT to do today" instead of "what do I HAVE to do today". That feeling is worth the 24 hour drive (from Phoenix), $300 entry fee, and all the rest of the time, money, and energy spent in getting there and surviving the week.

If you're going specifically for a "psytrance" experience, then I'd say go to a psytrance festival instead. If you're going to experience something unlike anything you've ever experienced before, then don't let anything or anyone stop you from going.

My only regret is that I didn't go earlier in life. I have known about and been interested in Burning Man since I was 11 years old, but it took me 20 years to actually get there.           "Every generation needs a new revolution." ~Thomas Jefferson

Gone the last six years, don't think I'm going back. It changed my life but yr a day late... unless u have a fetish for dubstep and RVs, then its heaven on earth. Personally the only thing I hate more than dubstep is rvs.

pretty much sums it up.

i haven't been since '05, got too big and too expensive for my liking. but it's definitely worth checking out at least once. the music at the big stages has always sucked, but if you have an open mind and no expectations, you can always find just the right thing for the moment - and that goes for everything at burning man.

Last year was my first Burn and that was amazing experience for me. I have dreamed to go to Burning Man since 2005 and finally I made it last year. And I LOVED IT.I wanna make it happen this year too.

Just go! After the Burn, Burning Man becomes part of your life. And you'll love it.

The first burn is always the best. All of them say so. Personally, can't say much further because it's only been one for me. Dreaming of being back there ever since. It's a lifechanging experience.... so large and diverse that you are bound to find what you're looking for.

To be frank, the psytrance crowd out there is just like any festival, so you should try to hook up with some seasoned burners and live in a camp to experience it properly.

Go for it and don't look back kazuku. It's one of the few things that define this generation in full spectrum. Just make sure you prepare well in time and carry lots of socks.

I've heard that Autonomous Mutant Festival has something close to the old burning man vibe (I've never been to either), but it's in a forest so definitely different.

Just go.

Don't listen to anyone who says it was better last year or whatever. Seriously. For everyone who says it was better in 2000, there is someone who says it stopped being cool in '98, and even more people who say that it should never have left the beach.

So ya, really. Don't listen to the "it was better before" crap because anyone spewing it hopped ON the bus right when others were getting OFF saying it wasn't like it was before.

Just go. It's an experience. It's your own experience. Don't go to be entertained. Just be there and be a part of it and you'll find relevant meaning and magic when and where you least expect it.

The only thing worse than a burner is an ex-burner. I hold allegiance to neither.

Very well put , extremely very well put.

I find this to be the sentiment about the psytrance scene in general, the music was better, the parties were better, teh festival was better, the vibe was better, the girls were better, etc.....
