WOW Burning Man was such an incredible experience. What impressed me most was how nice everyone was... and I am not sure this would be sustainable for a long period but while at the playa for those 7 days everyone was really trying to be so nice that eventually you just let your guard off because you knew that you could turn around and talk to anybody and they would just be totally awesome. People gave away food, drinks, energy, insights.. art and music of course.
I thought I was spending a lot of money and effort to get there but when I got there I realized that so many people spent much much more in art projects or just to have a great camp with music to share with others. So it was all worth it in the end.
At times Burning Man with all its freedom and good vibes seemed like all I wished and imagined the world could be like. You get a lot of good vibed open minded people together and it starts to feel like something is happening in the world. It made me think of events like woodstock. I mean there were like 60,000 people at Burning Man this year.. for seven days apart from the normal world. With totally new rules about what is acceptable or not. Anything goes there... everything is kind of accepted.. high tolerance level. It was really inspiring and it felt very spiritual at times. I felt like BM is some kind of creativity hub.. it felt big and like there is something awesome happening in the world. Beautiful people.. amazing vibes and crazy trippy atmosphere and art. Like psychedelic Disney..
Highly recommended.. I might have to be back for 2012.

Music was good and great and awesome at times and it sometimes felt absolutely magical even though for the most part I was sober. And I had planned on following certain artists but ended up just going with the flow of the moment and ended up at random camps enjoying from psy trance to tech house to world music grooves, most of the time without knowing who was playing. There was a bit too much dubstep for my taste though it didn't really bother much since there was so much to see. I just decided to kind of explore everything without trying to find exactly what I wanted and I had an awesome time. The sunrise was amazing which I enjoyed one day at the psytribe camp (though called something else there) and another day at the robot heart camp which was playing cheesier stuff but still nice music and amazing sunrise as well.
And during the day there were lots of talks, classes, sessions about all sorts of things.. from new age mumbo jumbo stuff to wacky sex stuff. I saw a bit of everyting and I even tryed a group session where a woman from london was showing tapping energy points to release blockages.. I was skeptical but at the end of the session people were crying and I actually felt incredible. |

Sounds great Aluxe, are you going again next year?

I am thinking I will.. and I bet 2012 is going to be be crazy and far out because people are putting so much energy into this new age shift, even if its all our own creation.. or wishful thinking, because there is also energy and something special there.
Definitely going to buy at least 2 tickets when they start selling them for 2012 just to be safe (before they go up in price)
You should definitely go for it. It might seem like a huge ordeal.. thats how I felt for a lot of years, and so it would never happen. You feel like you are going to the other side of the world because of the effort and money to prepare but when I got to burning man I realized that people spent way way more than I ever did creating amazing camps with music to share, or building amazing art projects to create something special with the community.. and so my efforts felt like nothing and it all felt so worthwhile because it was such a special thing for everyone.
You need to make it to burning man! Thats what I am telling my friends in Mexico...
And you know there is a temple they build every year at BM where everyone goes and writes on the walls or leaves letters or just their energy so that they release something they want to let go, like somebody that passed away.. or something you want to to transcend. You would see people meditating there, crying... it was an intense energy.. and there were no religious dogmas attached to it other than the feelings and visions of everyone. This year I wrote something for my grandmother who was total love for my family and she passed away.. but I also left a special note for the world that read: "WE CAN CREATE THE WORLD WE WANT" and I meant it and believed it from the bottom of my soul. I put the intention behind that note that this was the stronger reality and that we would release all the fears and transcend all the limitations that are keeping the world down. And on the last day the temple was burned and as I saw the huge fires bringing down the temple structure I thought in my mind that symbolized our fears and limitations crumbling down. It was like a ritual.. it had power because it changed something in me.. maybe its the power of intention. YOu know when you direct energy with focus, and emotion, and soul... and for a moment there it breaks the spell and you believe it and there is energy and power there that frees your mind.
After that I said.. this is it. I am not going to look at the world and myself from a victims perspective because that's what is keeping us paralized and in chains. We are free and we can create the world we want! And I will give power to that loving energy of hope over the hopelessness of fear. You know? so that was the temple at Burning Man for me.. It is the rite of Passage. We shed our old skin, release the fear and become new and empowered beings with a strong vision that can heal and create the world we really want to see

You live in US right? How much money you needed?
You are really convincing me of going, maybe I will drive from DF to the desert, sounds like a good adventure also.

Yeah I live in New York now which is basically as far as Mexico City from Burning Man. the ticket cost like $300 but where I spent most money was in buying camping gear for the desert (4 season tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, food, shoes, etc) and then I also had to buy a bike and rent a car, as well as hotels for two nights in reno. And all that stuff kind of ads up. But if you start preparing early its all doable. I agree with suppergroover.. just go! buy your ticket when they start selling them and you will figure everything else out.
If you do end up going let me know so we can meet up.. |

People from all over the world do there.. if you are on the continent you are already close.. So distance is no excuse what so ever not to go.. We went with a group of 20 people from Amsterdam last year! That is 8500 km!
