So much dubstep and electrohouse. Psykovsky was the only psytrance and plain old techno was pretty rare, too.

phone was dead by then. It was a dust storm anyways. Quite apocalyptic. Was on a function one system but was really quiet. Not sure wtf the deal was. When they were playing crapstep, it was boneshaking. For Vasily, it was barely on.

lol @ hitler
how did we let dubstep and glitch hop take over "psychedelic" culture? Or am I being far too generous in labeling burning man as "psychedelic?" I don't know, never been, not planning on going.

BM was very very psychedlic. Unfortunately, the music was mostly non-psychedelic. If you wanted to hear heady music, you needed to be ready to ride many miles to find it, and by the time you got there, some dubstep DJ would take over 10 min later.

Actually, it was a blast. Worth every bit of expense and hardship. I'd give it an A- only because the music was primarily not to my liking(in all honesty, 90% of the events I go to fall under this category, so take that with a grain of salt.)

yea, it seems like just about everyone i know who HAS been, goes back, and there are dust storms, feds, and dubstep every year, so theres gotta be something to it
i like the ideas behind the temple burn.....seems like i'd most likely be off enjoying some peace and quiet (or trance ) during the most of the party, though, and pretty physically and mentally uncomfortable when i was out and about.....but, like i said, i havent been

Burning Man was awesome.. but I will heartily agree with Hardkornate's opinion that it was difficult to find interesting, heady music out there.
By the time you found some interesting music, yes, 10 minutes later a dubstep DJ would take it down 5 chakras.
By interesting music... I enjoy many genres.. trance, progressive, techno, dub, rock, breaks, funk, Goa, house, chillout,...
but I mostly recall hearing testosterone-jacked, grimey, droning-n-groaning dubstep and dancehall music... arguably not very psychedelic,
detailed or colorful.
Some of the better sets I saw I saw were Heoyka @ Entheon Village (lysergic breaks / dubstep), Random Rab at Portal Patch (melodic, downtempo breaks), at DJ Dragonfly (psytrance and techno) at the Hookahdome right after the burn.

Big ups to the people from LA / PsyTribe / ISrael + Japan for the rocking little psychedelic trance party near 10:00 on the morning after the burn. It was awesome to finish a long, dark night off with spongecake, strawberries, sunshine and Goa trance.
it was an awesome morning psy vibe that I truly enjoyed and appreciated!
If you haven't been to Burning Man - go for it - it is he pinnacle of American culture and worth whatever it takes to have a roll in it.
SInce there were few music highlights for me this year, I think I will focus more on the daytime events / activites /workshops and classes.. truly powerful nectar is on offer out there!
