I've just re-installed win2k pro.
I have a scsi burner and now windows recognize it as a cdrom. I see the drive letter and everything.. but not as a burner.. if I try CDRWIN it says "no aspi managers found"
and if I try Nero it just doesnt accept it as a recording device..
both burning apps worked before...

did anyone ever encounter this?

Dear Tzahi, :)
you didn't supply us with the information needed (reminds me of a song) for accurately pin point the problem, info such as SCSI adapter type and model, CD-R type and model and that kind of essential nonsense... :)
In general, Win2k has built in drivers for almost every device (those are in most cases even newer and better than the drivers you got when you first bought the device.)
Problems may appear When preforming an Upgrade from older systems (such as win98 ).
So always make a clean installation, Delete the older OS, or install the older first and then win2000 on a different partition(goes to any of microsoft products)

From what you have described, if CDRWIN did point the problem correctly you probably have an old ASPI Driver (kind of an interface for scsi programs) which could be (and thats way i mentioned that earlier) as a result of an unclean installation.

That is a rather common SCSI problem and can be solved by Installing/Reinstalling the latest drivers.
If you have an Adaptec card check out
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverindex.html
(There choose the Technology/Family/Product of your card and download the win2k drivers)

Also try downloading and installing the latest SP (Service Pack) for win2k, and its latest "critical updates" from "windows update" in your start menu or -
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
(highly recommended anyway)

Come back with details if that wouldn't help or if you got something else than an Adaptec SCSI device.

P.S
The ASPI files are
wnaspi32.dll
winaspi.dll
aspi32.sys

you can check out their version or see if you got multiple files, if so delete the older files.
(unrecommended)

If its safe for me to say, Win2k is really a fine system (there arent any Linux users around right? :D ) Dont give up!

8)

(oops... forgot to bless on that one...)

thanks for taking the time to write all this.:)

anyhow - I didn't upgrade to win2k, I used it all along.
it just went too overloaded and buggy so I had to re-install it.

for the details you asked, I have a Tekram DC315U Scsi adapter and an old JVC X2 burner (Don't laugh.) ;)

thing is that all the devices work properly. yet any burning app just refuse to burn with it.. I tried installing new drivers and it didn't help. I also use the latest service pack of win2k so that isn't the problem.. besides I could burn with hte last win2k with the same drivers so I see no reason it shoudln't work again..

and Kebab I ain't gonna re-install windows!! haha.
I've just finished doing so and I sure don't want to do it again.
:)

I'll keep on trying to play with it (when I have the time..)

thanks anyways...

Its ok I always write too much after 02:30 PM :)
I dont know what's wrong with me... ;-)

You tried to install the JVS's drivers or the Tekram drivers?

cause ASPI Manager problems usually refer to the SCSI adapter...

And I know win2k DONT auto detect the DC315U correctly,
so you have to insert the drivers disk in the installation process.

Anyway ASPI dont have to be a driver problem, and as i said its quite common to have different version ASPI files wich results in errors:)

I think that reinstalling the ASPI environment might fix your problem,
goto -
http://www.winchan.net/aspi/
To download the files and further instructions...
(Adaptec makes the aspi managers and they work with all scsi adapters)

Another thing you can try is to use Adaptec's Easy Cd creator, though its not The best software,
it seems to work were others fail, concerning scsi problems... :)

Good luck!
