i have a basic working sheet, working on each group of sampels untill i will be satisfied and have good amount from them.
you propbly asking yourself "what?????", so here is a simple explnation.i work on evry gruop of sampels that togather ensampling a track (bass,kick,snares.hi-hats,drums,fx,synth etc.)
hope you get the point so far...
now to the technical part...
what should be thier dhuration?
any information will be welcomed!!!

Duration? Do you mean length of loops?
in my opinion it should be as short as possible - takes less space. But then if you got a long loop, dont make it short on purpose. Keep it like it is.

same answer that mike gave....use different kinds of samples, mostly short, but if u have a longer sample, don't hesitate to use it... |

I think the length depends on the usage of the sample. Sometimes i need long samples sometimes short ones (that you can take out of long ones).
And if you go to create your own sample libary, i think you should try to create a good mix of different samples, also with different length.

I mean if you have made a long sample, like a pad for example (i.e. or e.g.? i never know), and you use it for a song, you can use it full or only a part of it.

Hey eliran17!
if i was you, i would sort the samples in keys, if the sounds are harmonic..like synthlines, pads and so on..
if not you should sort them as special Efx...of some kind... make many folders and catagorize the sounds..
maybe start with portamento Efx, or Reversed percussion, kickbangs, reversed gongs, what ever you can think of that can be reused or used as a "try out" piece in your arrangements..
So the synthlines and such harmonic parts should be sorted in keys...
how long you sample depends on the purpose, for example you can sample a long pad or sustained note, chop it up and make something totaly different of it, gate some parts of it or what ever... filter gate it, with some delay, the ideas are many, try to keep a line over the sounds then make a folder where you put all brother and sister sounds, now you have a collection of fitting sounds....
other ideas is to sample a wide range of keys of a sound, decide length(maybe many different lengths) and consider if it can be good to have some automation on some sounds
Filters and many other paramters can often be automated with the sampler but i dont know how good the lfos and fm modulations sounds compared to made with the synth or the sampler
anyway have fun and be innovative!
Also dig out some old material and see what can be done.. some times you can find real gems..

i'll sure will catgorize them by groups...
its a great idea to use some filter but on the delay and reverb i think i'll pass in this stage coz who knows what i'll want to do whith it later on when i actually will work on the track itself
