Hello Everyone,
A friend of mine is helping me build my own comp. I've been told its cheaper to build a comp these days than buy a new one.

Anyway, for the purposes of making music alone(i'm still a novice! I'm currently using the FL studio producer edition) what kind of things should i be looking at buying?
i mean things like motherboard, processor, VDU, RAM, hard drive, OS, Sound Card, Graphics card(have i missed anything? please add if so.) also i use the internet a lot. (Don't know if you had to know that, sorry!)

Hope i'm not asking for too much.
but Thank you all for your time and help.

Peace.

Depends on your budget!

You should be able to build a hefty system for around $2000 (depending on how much you want to spend on the sound card). Do you have any outboard gear that you will need lots of inputs for? If not expect to spend around $200 on the card.

My BEST bEST bEsT advice to you is to spend on the motherboard............ don't fall into the trap and try save money (try save, but good will not cost nothing).... at the end of the day, what is connected to the motherboard? EVERYTHING
Get top of the line of the respectable brands......
ASUS is looking Good....
A stable system will last long..... a slow one wil.....(not)
As for video....... get a matrox G550 or something.... this is a DUAL HEAD video card and will allow you to connect two monitors to the computer, thus expanding your work space......
(making the two screens as if one) very usefull especially when working in virtual enviroment!

HOPE THIS HELPED

u can build an exellent computer for music for about 1200 dollars, if you buy an amd chip. i advise you to buy a motherboard with a sata option and two sata hard drives. you can buy an amd 2700 xp proccessor and all the adittional hardware at a low price. but remmember that amd chips are overclocked so you will need a quality cpu fan.

about the sound card i recommend rme , but for a cheaper yet quality option you can get delta series card ( m-audio) or any card of that class. it depends on how much money you want to spend on the card. the stronger your computer is the less important the card type is.

...it all depends on your budget ( especially about the soundcard...). tell it to us...we try to help.

gothmog: i don t understand what the speed of the cpu has to do with the soundcard...fast cpu just helps the soundcard to achieve lower latency, thats all...

I think i can spend about $1200 on the whole lot. The processor, motherboard, RAM, Hard drives, sound card blah blah blah blah....
don't know if can build myself a decent comp with that but thats as much as i can push my budget.
Is that enough?
Thank you very much for your help!
I really appreciate you guys taking the time to write man!! Thanks!!

the things that matter most when producing music with a pc is the sound card > the ammount of ram memory and the speed of the harddisk (depending of how many audiotracks you want to mix at a time).
