I am going to build a DAW with AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU.
So I did tons and TONS of research (despite being an uber noob with hardware)
and found out that the latest Mobos for for AMD 64 chipsets are terrible for audio cause PCI-e has big bottlenecks and the Nvidia Nforce4 chips are meant for gamers. As a result, I have come up with 3 options for Mobos (utilizing VIA or Nforce3):

1. ABIT AV8
2. GIGABYTE K8NSNXP
3. MSI K8N NEO2 PLATINUM

Advantage of Abit AV8 is that its super stable and easy to install. Its supposedly a super solid board. Disadvantage is that I don't really see many examples of this as a proven DAW mobo. Also, I heard that theres issues with VIA and that NForce3 is definitely preferable for audio production. Now, many swear by Nvidia NForce3 for audio and so my choices are among MSI NEO2 and GIGA's K8NSNXP. Seems MANY people are using these are their DAWs on the Cubase/Sonar forums. But reading the reviews on newegg, they seem super unreliable. So PLEASE help me. Which Mobo should I go with? Many thanks in advance.

I would go for an ASUS A8N instead of a VIA mobo.
I know people built very smooth running systems with those.
In my experience they seem very reliable.
Anyway, I would for sure go for a board that people using the same software/hardware combination have reported that they run fine.
Best of all, contact the hardware manufacturer and see what they recommend,           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

thanks for replyign Spindrift. Asus was my top choice till I found many people who complained about pops and clicks. Apparantly, PCI-e is horrible for recording audio. The following quote I found from a board, is similar to many I've seen:

"PCI Express tends to favor video cards over PCI audio interfaces causing pop/click issues. Look for the nForce3 chipset... I think that's non PCI Express. "

then use another bus for ur soundcard... USB or IEEE1394 (firewire)... pciXpress is too good to skip it.... And i'd go for the asus too... I always take asus and i'm very happy with them...

The first 2 mobo's are good. I am planning either of those for my next computer.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

I'm currently using the MSI board on my current setup, works excellent! Only thing I would complain on the mobo is the southbridge's positition, you can get in trouble if you have a huge video-card cooler.

hey everybody thanks for replying.
Fragletrollet: I totally wanted to go with the MSI board. The only problem is I'm a newb when it comes to building PC's and my friend whos buiding it for me is good but I don't know how good. Did you have to do massive amounts of work to get it up and running? Or should it be smooth sailing if I go with good Brand name memory?

i think you should choose between asus or abit
the leading firms on the market, stable and made for OC

but all the specs give pretty the same performance
you should try the VIA KT chipset, its said its pretty good

nforce as you said, is kinda useless for music production, but nice if you like gamin.

OK I finally found the board I think I want. Since the latest VIA's seem to be OK now and I should stay away from NForce, and I want a reliable Mobo, Im going for this guy:
ASUS A8V DELUXE Socket 939 VIA K8T800

that looks great... but look out for that cool and quiet technology!!! It slows down ur cpu to keep temperature down, so u'll have to turn it off!! And those built in audio things are actually quite useless for home-producers, but it doesn't really matter... U can prolly turn it off in the BIOS...

good choice!

its what i say pc trying to get mac tecnology pci x lolol cause pop and click :S lolol here i never had such pop and click , im using delta 1010lt and absolutely no stress , overload or pop click :SSS

so i think try using allready this pcix imitations its not the best option , if u whant pcix running like maximum tork with good quality use g5 , and forget pc , if u can afford one stay on normal mobo , but asus just like spindrift sayed and pop and click usually occour if u are using pciX video card and sound carad pcix as well

so chek does infos           "HIGH PULSE" AKA FUSION OF DARKPSY PROJECTS
