If you are from the U.S. go to guitarcenter.com, and just look at prices that fit your budget. |

You might kick off with a good budget Sound card.
I'd go for Luna 2!

Listen dude,
Start with a good sound card (24Bit), then
later you may add a nice synth/D.Machine...
If your budget is big then start with S.card (Luna, Layla, Pulsar, Maya, Delta 1010)
And get a mixer with the card (Studio mixer)!
Good luck dude! |

I think that if he's already buying 24/96 Sound card he'd better buy a good one, like Luna 2

Is it out?
I visited Music Shop like a month ago and Eyal didn't say anyhing about Luna 3.
Luna 2 is a great card an costs "only" 2000 Shekels.
That's a good price, considering you recieve descent HD recording system, Nice Real time synths, GREAT real time effects and ability to upgrade to bigger system easily.

Why hardware ?
Buy the most powerfull computer u can get ,
add some Pulsar or RME sound card ,
midi keyboard , studio monitors ,
$10 pc speakers (for reference) ,
and good headphones .
it's all hardware u need to make quality music .
If u can make music on software , why do u need
expansive hardware like: samplers synths and big
consoles ?

one more thing , if u already goin' to build a studio
get some accoustics and speaker stands
for yo "control room" .
It can help u a lot to get the most "flat" sound
out of yo monitors .
EZ ,
Peace. |

IMHO........you don't need any real synths, you can do whatever you want with software (if cosma, lish , talamasca ,hujaboy and more.... can do good music with software than you can also)
but you sure need a good computer , soundcard, monitors and a midi keyboard

On the matter of Son kite, personally I think they're highly creative and create great music, but that's just a matter of taste.
Anyways, about Son kite's equipment (and the equipment of the other artists that also use Hi-hat studio, such as Ooze and Qlap), start drooling:

the old soft vs hard discussion again, so here´s my two cents. although i am using my pc for almost everything, most of my sound still comes from hardware synths, i like the looks, the sound and the controllability of them. softs are getting better and better but i only use them for efx sounds, i prefer to use cpu power on running lots of inserts and sends instead. i don´t believe that softs will ever replace hardware 100% but if one is pressed for money the pc solution is excellent,.accompanied by a decent hardwaresynth, good quality soundcard and good monitors you´re well off to produce music |

Thanx for everyones replys. My turn to retort. Software vs Hardware-- its a matter of personal prefernce. My issue is I am a musician. Ive played percussion and guitar since i was a child. Its more musical to me if your using more instrumental hands on things versus our studio friend, the computer. Anyone can produce music with software after time, its all mechanics. But can you pick out just any synth and make it sound the way you want? Can you program drum beats on the fly with 3 thousand people in front of you? With hardware its less confusing also. Computers also are large margin for error. Cheaper yes, but one has to decide what they like and think they express best with. I think talamsca is the shit, Musica Divinorum was all software. But i dont get a kick out of watching people click buttons for a show. Give me a dj over that. This is what separates Musicians from producers.
