hey, a lot of people believe in god.....
and leon, u gotta take a bit of respect for being a dj..
afterall, there has to be a reason wy youre a DJ playing professionally in a club and not every other person in the crowd is...
i never sadi DJs were gods, actually im saying that most djs arent, and i agree with you partly

its far more worhty of respect to be a producer rather than a DJ

sorry, that was suppose to be a joke , no offence intended, and i think there's respect in any creative job .
but the dj is there for the ppl and if he's a good dj the ppl are there for him too .
it's almost symbiotic really, they exchange energies .
if it works this way i think all the parties involved have a blast .

fair point...
to explain what i was saying before a bit better...
i dont really believe in programming
this is my main problem with the music scene in the uk, its getting too mainstream in many aspects.
one is that there are too many rules set out for the producers / djs
"you cant put that sound in a there"
"youre track has to sound like this"
and
"djs have to carefully select the tracks they will play"

this is regarded as the other major skill over actually being able to mix
but wot i meant was that i think this should be an inbuilt thing, not something thought about
what i was saying was that there must be a reason why any individual is djing and not members of the crowd (tho they could also be djs)
it shouldnt just be an ability to mix but the ability to play a sweet set
what im saying is this should less be something thought about but just done, played through a vibe

what i meant aswell was sometimes the best track to play is not the one theyre asking for... afterall if everyone did that, we wouldnt hear new music, would we?

that SHOULD be the basic premise behind djing.. but sadly a lot of big name djs dont quite seem to get that
everyones too obsessed with the other rules

dont stick to the ruless!!!
thats the basic moral

sooryy if this siounded wholly irelevant

You don't understand do you...?

You play the best music you have/like!
If it's really good, the people will go crazy,
but if it's not...get better!

sets sound nicer when they're a journey instead of just a bunch of good tracks... although that is all right as well, the order you play these things in has some purpose too.

but my whole point was that i dont believe in planning the order of the tracks before hand, wihch is deemed as a rule by so many big name DJs over here...
i much prefer the idea of the DJ who assembles a flow of records as he goes, creating something new and spontaneous

Spontaneous Jurney is nice idea... but I don't think it's real - yet.

ok, but you have to agree that even if you pick your tracks spontaneously, you have to do your homework and know your tracks well , so there's still some sort of  preplanning .

well, im not sure about homework...
that sounds too much like hard work

but i only buy tracks i like anyway, and tend to get to know them after a couple of plays

i dont think its necessarily important to know every track inside out.... sometimes the best mixes are the nes where you havent thought about a cue point. i usually dont think of ea specific point, i go for eithert the first beat or the beggining of a 4 or 8 bar run, and i havent necessarily chosen this on purpose, but i havent picked this 4 or 8 bar part from within a scertain section of the track

creating something slightly odd is usually the most fun thing

and your flow of records done spontaneously, well if your at a party youve chosen a certain selection of records anyway, and you think you now wanna drop something darker and harder, but maybe a bit slower, or something upbneat, opld skool goa or whatever

the point is evry DJ should do this differently, not stick to a set rulebook, whatever suits that person, otherwise all DJs sound the same, this in my mind is a crude definition of commercialism- doing what evryone else does rather than something new
