I have a problem, im buldiong a new DAW i wanted to go for Athlon 64 3500+ 939 and Asus mobo, but the available ones include the Nforce 4 chipset, or via,SiS, i don´t know that much about the last 2 ones. My other option was getting pentium 4 and Asus P5wd2 wich has intel chipset, but this last configuration raises the price for 250 dollars.
So i want to know if Nforce 4 is so bad, or via could do the job, i mean i could save those 250 dollars for an audio interface. So im in a dilemma, i cannot go for MSI since i´ve only seen their last models wich include the nforce4.
So would appreciate some advices,.

I would also like to see some responses for this since i'm building a new DAW too. the biggest pain in the ass for me was finding a motherboard. pretty much no new mobos have AGP slots, just pci/pci express. i dont want to buy a whole new graphics card when i got a perfectly fine raedon 9800XT
i too went with an ASUS mobo for now, the AV8 socket 939 board. its got the VIA chipset in it. it has no onboard firewire which sucks.
if you want to view the rest of the box so far check out: https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=1906244&WishListTitle=computer
i just wish i could straighten out the mobo.. i too would appreciate some advice |

i planned to buy an amd system but because of the whole chipset trouble (nf4..) i decided to go for an intel cpu with the p5wd2 mainboard.
--> it is a rock solid system and works without any problems. |

ho
@aeon
didnt you ever heard anything bad about NF4 chipset yet ?? for sure it has....
I'm planning a new DAW too...and I'm sure I will go for a AMD...what worrys me it's this issue...the chipsets...
cuz I don't wanna spend loads of money inna system that will bring me headaches and troubles...like conflits between the sound card and the pci-express slots
so ? it's this chipset nf4 soo BAD ???
and the others like VIA or SiS ??
the one and only Mobo that I can find for sale with the NF3 chipset it's this one :
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=1881&ProductName=GA-K8NSC-939
and it comes without the fireware interface....
I'm with many doubts
please give some light
peace

I built a couple of systems with the K8NSC and it runs audio really well.
At least with the Creamware Pulsar, but thats usually a very picky card.
Get a PCI FW card if you need that...you will still have spare money compared to if you get a MOBO the very latest chipset.
And you will get a more stable machine but have plently enough speed with a good CPU and RAM.

my pleasure
after searching on the net a while ago ,about compability and conflicts, i found that NF eather is problematic conflictable with RME's hamerfall 96/36 witch lead to switching mobo.Well Rme reports that NF 3 is compatible with their cards now but other manufactures didnt do it yet ,and on the other hand intel and asus are the full suported mobos right know.
i trust too intel and asus mobos (never heard some problems about...).
i remember the Holy Shwarz aka Holyman's thechnikal article from Newzeeck magazine(2000),he recomended a intel chipset in Intel mobos or in Asus for best compatibale performans.
btw : its all depends on pci u use , like others uses a full setup like Pocos and uad-1 with their Rme or others ,and pocos did problems even with Asus etc ,same with uad-1 ,but with the time and new updates it get compatibele with mobos ,well if the manufacturs care).anyways ,Asus and Intel have best compability .
Good luck!
