Bufo - Bug Eyes
Image: http://www.discogs.com/image/R-765518-1156518103.jpeg
Rasmus 'Moses' Joergensen and Nikolai Psypox' Vohnsen formed together Bufo project a few years back. They give us their first album together and its minimal, weird, original and super pounding music!
01. Ultra Uglen (8:57)
Screams and shouts start the first track just for a few seconds till the kick begin to pound. It takes just a few seconds till the nasty effects start to jump from side to side. Some really cool ones, I liked especially the "oooffaa" vocal which is kinda funny and can be translated as "Bufo" too to some ears. Nice effects mixture here.
02. Platypussy (9:49)
Scary vocal beggining, reminds me sounds from "Alien" series. Really liked that "what" sounds which comes sometimes, cool one. Kinda tribalish sounds. It has more melodical synths that the previous track, and that alien vocal keeps on coming and asking us "why" all the time, maybe why do you put the track in low volume? I didnt really like that
it has only open hihat and no other ones, but the effects mixture compensates without any problems! Its really amazing imo. 4:12 some more weird sick twisted sounds restart the beat again with another fine sound sample which say "new york"? great work on that track guys! Finally some good percussion work cuz i really dislike open hats. Its great to listen till it ends, awesome piece of work imo!
03. Tadpole Tooth (9:43)
This one has much funkier bass than before. The kickbass combo here are really good ones! The great vocal work continues here, wonder how the do it so funny That carouselle effects starts to be annoying after a few minutes of play. It gets kinda emotional in the last third of the track. good work guys again. just the carouselle isnt my taste.
04. Spit Vision (8:47)
Starting with the kick straight ahead and more strange talking which i really like. Doesnt evolve to much but the vocal which starts in 2:02 is reaallly funny LOL! The track has less effects work which is the base of this trance style, thats for this one is less strong than the ones which come before it. More buildup required here imo besides
of the funny vocals.
05. Doing Kermit (Feat Tribalistic Society) (8:50)
Funny vocal lol! Starts like an old commercial from the sixties. Kickbass are good ones. Awesome sick and twisted
effects! It has really good buildup with psycho talkings and effects,im sure it will work great on the floor. The vocal is really amazing! hahaha where did they get it from because its hilarious. One of my favorites here! funny funk
06. Mushi Moose (7:57)
Effects looping come again with some nasty kicking. this one starts with the approarch "in your face" and dont waste too much time to develop. The wooo sample is great, i just love the ideas of Bufo with vocal work! Lots of crazy lines later in the track with manny funny vocals. Cool one
07. Rubber Lumb (8:37)
It takes some time till it evolves into the magic mayhem that those guys give us. I really think that those open hihats all the time are annoying, you could make it better with other tools imo. The beat taking us somewhere, but it never comes i think, it could be nicer if there was a climax or rhythm break somewhere. Good work overall but not of my favorites of the album.
08. Marinus (8:20)
Something like a gypsy market with tons of reverb begins the last journey of the album. Some strange cow mooing and the great formula of BufoFX is here too. It takes more time to develop and i like it cuz i wait till it will pound our brains. This time it has really nice relaxing break with synth melodies which not the regular Bufo style. Me likes that! Good track with more strange vocals. The gypsy market finishes it off too.
PS
I think that this album has really great sound! Tim Larner did one hell of a job together with the Bufo guys.
Conclusion
I think that this one is not as hard to listen as Sensients or Krumelurs stuff. It has much more funk here and its less darky and it can be heard by broader type of listeners. Nevertheless its a good piece of music and Im glad I took a listen to it. I think that these guys are talented enough to make in the future more varied music as Bufo. Most of the tracks here chew similar formula despite they are good ones. Hope they do that in the future, but still that album is really good one to listen to and Im sure that some tracks
from here could be awesome night dancefloor bombs.

I doubt I'll be able to fit any of these tracks into my DJ-sets, but Nikolaj and Moses has certainly found their own sound - it's funky, wobbly, humoristic music made for the outdoors, and the use of voice-samples (many of them recorded by themselves) is very creative.
Good job lads

Has to be one of the funniest and wackiest albums i've heard lately. Haven't that much laugh since the mumbo jumbo album.
