On the average release nowadays (both compilations and albums) I tend to like somewhere between 1 and 3 tracks, and I’m actually surprised why the labels on the psytrance scene almost have ignored (or forgotten) the CD-single (or CD Maxi), now that the vinyl is slowly fading out of use.

The biggest advantage with the CD-single as I see it, is the reduced “filler-effect”. There are just too many rushed and unfinished albums, particularly from new artists, probably (and understandably) eager to get something released with their name on it. Wouldn’t it be better if these artists had the best couple of tracks released on a single, with an added remix or two for half the price? As I see it, it’s much better value for the money.

Am I the only one feeling this way, and what about the labels? Why is it that we hardly see any CD-singles on the market? Is it the economical aspect?          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

Well pr0fane, I also agree with u man! I´d like to see more CD-Singles on the market.

Speaking with some labels managers, I realised that it can be not so good, cause labels says that CD-Single has not a good selling, only if it´s a very known act.

But I still think that CD-Single is a very good idea for more quality releases!           LOADING...

I think CD singles are a waste of plastic... just pack higher-quality material on the full-length albums already!

The interesting thing is when there are special features on the single.. Like in example the Violet Vision remix of Cities of the Future (the only one I'm seriously fond of..)

Those past months I have ordered a few singles and never regretted it, so I'm quite agree with pr0fane here..

Today came BoOm Devil "Life Is" single in the mail (I LOVE the album) and there is his own "BoOm Devil Break Mix" on it which is completely smashing.. Sorry if i'm a bit offtopic but such examples are numerous..

Gimme more !           .

depends upon how low the labels are willing to reduce the price to...........

if its not significantly low then IMo they wudnot sell

people wudnot mind paying marginally extra if they are getting 9 tracks for a few dollars extra instead of 2-3

and btw everyone has different opinioins about the tracks on an album/compil......what u hate sumone may dig and vice versa

therefor i think the present system is the best atleast from the marketing angle

I just love CD Maxis (should be 3-5 tracks and 25-40 minutes play time). They are almost without exception very good. And then they are not so long that you get bored.
If I was running a record company then this would have been the only thing I would have released.
CD Singles on the other hand varies a lot, from utterly kick ass to totally terrible. It is usually a very bad sign when the first track is a "radio edit". And if the rest of the tracks is just remixes of the same track, then it is usually not very good. The worst ones are when you get like 6 remixes and none of them sound different from the original. Are these just released for DJs? Because you cannot play these at home without wanting to smash your CD player.

I´ve had that same thought for a very long time.
cd-maxis is a very neat thing to own.
if and album would be to much, there´s always this item. But as someone said, expensive to make if you have to do one for every artist.
But as i saw on the Iboga site, there´s a Frogacult maxi coming and with a pack of remixes. In such a case i rather own a maxi with three good remixes and an original, than an album with only a few good tracks:)

cheers!
