I'll let you in on a secret - I like breaks more than psytrance these days.
First of all, you should listen to a breakbeat mix of mine which is online right now. Go to the link below, and you can download the mix and see the tracklist (also with labels listed).
http://www.bijoubreaks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=159
(I posted the link in the promotional forum, but I think it's OK to post it here again )
There are some really good websites that have a lot of information about breaks. Check out:
www.nubreaks.com (best breaks site on the internet)
www.nuskoolbreak.com
www.nuskoolbreaks.co.uk
www.bijoubreaks.com (new site - mostly mixes for download)
www.nuskoolbreaks.net (German site)
Also, if you are living in Tel Aviv, go see Zombi play sometime - I hear that he plays some breaks is his sets now.

Crap - I also forgot about a great place to hear a lot of good breaks online:
www.breaksfm.com
It's an online radio station dedicated to nothing but breaks. They have some really cool shows - Strongarm Sessions, Melting Pot, etc.
Here is a link for the page of the Strongarm Sessions. It is a weekly show from Elite force, one of the best breaks DJs & producers, IMO.
http://www.strongarmsessions.co.uk
(the site seems down right now, but I'm sure it is only temporary).
Also, anything from Meat Katie is golden. Check out his 2CD Bedrock Breaks mix that was released in May. Wonderful music.

i was wondering about any dark breaks, kinda like the night trance in breakbeat
|
|
oh yeah, i´m looking after the same!!!
trying to make some myself.
this would be soo cool if a new genre would establish (in the underground of course)
DARKBREAKPSY
or
DARKPSYBREAKZ
much more interesting and compatible with psychedelic music than all this pop oriented crap (house, techno...) |

There is much more breakbeat music out there than psytrance... From DnB/Jungle to house oriented stuff (Plump DJs for instance), techno oriented stuff and even psytrance oriented stuff (some things by Artifakt, Eraser vs. Yojalka, and so on). And of course, rock/punk breakbeat is probably the most famous (The Prodigy, early Chemical Brothers stuff, etc) and there's bigbeat...
A rather nice article about the history of breakbeat music: http://encyclozine.com/Breakbeat
And the natural place to look for answers for your questions: http://www.breakbeat.org/

I hate breakbeat as a genere, but love it when psy-trance artists use elements from breakbeat.

Some stuff by NuBreed would qualify as psy breaks, especially a track called MidiKilla, which is a stormer and no doubt would go down very well in a psy set.
Quite a lot of Australian prog. breaky stuff is not too far from psy, also look for Hi Fi Bugs, Phil K etc. |
