You played a smart game even better than the original cattenaccio its the improved cattenaccio thats why i called the 21st century. The Cattennacio scores goals, its not because you scored in every match that is not a catenaccio, its about the way the team play
You only defend and let the other team attack and spend their energies, let the other team run and run and when they are tired you try to kill them
Czech republic suffered that like we suffered
Sorry to say this but this football hv won now but is a football that disapear very fast is ugly for the ppl that see it, its bad very bad, dont hv energy,its not beauty but for sure is efficient dont doubt about that

the final was easy game for Greece.
portugal can't win over greece, and we show it 2 times in 3 weeks.
bring us Brazil next and we will take them to.

you know there is the effective way and the jabbering way, many words, talking and ball possesion but no result. We were are out for the effective way.
If you don't like what you see, consider changing the rules but with these rules we were the most effective.
and in order to draw an analogy from music consider a piece of clasicall era music with a great orchestra: many players and complex arrangements, but sometimes a simple drum machine and a synthie can have far better results!
anyone prefering classing music than psytrance around, here:)? |

As the Portugese coach (actually Brazilian) put it, it is up to the team that play more aggresively to find ways to beat, this defensive style of playing. May be its a 21st century catenacio, I am sure it can be beaten, but until it is beaten it should be also respected.
Also the Chechs really played teribble, they almost collapsed, and we played very well, at the extra time. This is not really our fault.
Anyway i can understand that the Portugese friends may feel a little depressed, they were trying this for many many years, they had a good team, while we on the other hand were the total underdogs, and even going to the second round was a big success. They were waiting the championship much more eagerly than we did.
On the other hand reading on some other newspaper sites, the English seem really uncomfortable with us wining, and I really cannot understand the reason. Do not forget that such a solid defense line and such a disciplined game, is really not an easy task to built. |

i think the greece is great team but why only win with 1 - 0 no more gools i think the good teams win for more gools in few games  and i think the greece defense with 11 players so they win for sure  |

well u that u think we didnt reserved the cup...read this :
greece - portogal : 2-1
we won the hostess team in their big celebration 1st game
greece - spain : 1-1
we draw the team that was second behind us in the qualifing group and sent them to play with norway...
raul,morientes etc wanted revenge and did NOTHING
greece - russia : 1-2
we simply loose
greece - france : 1-0
we won the team had won the last cup and has players such zidane,henry
greece - czech : 1-0 extra time
we won the team that played the most attractive football in tournament
greece - portogal : 1-0
we won the portogals in the final,in their country,wanted revenge for the 1st damage.
so guys? we had the most difficult gaming schedule and we bit em all...we didnt reserved this cup?
as detox said we scored in every game so where is cattenacio?also we knew that we had to gaming against great players so would be suicide if we try to kill em and playing offence.we played clever way!!
also modern football isnt only a ball and 22 players.there is and a couch.u know why?cause of TACTICS !!!if u dont have tactic (u dont know what u really want and dont knowing the oppoment) u cant do anything...
personally i prefer for my team a player like charisteas that when the only time he touches the ball inside the opposite area will make the goal and also comes back to his area to help to marking
than a player like figo that will make 5-6 nice dribles and in 10 chances will make only 1 goal.
OK? accept it people !!!
we are the best till the next ....
thats the game,thats the way it played...with talent,strengh,soul,tactic...

Let me congratulate the Greeks, it was a well deserved win. The way it looked, other than Costa, the Portugese team could have attacked for 15 years and not scored. All the people talking about a bad way to play the game and so on... well, the 'better' ways to play the game as played by teams like Portugal and the Netherlands didn't manage to get the cup. Say it's ugly, say you don't like that type of game, but saying that this type of game is worse is just not dealing with reality.
It's great seeing a TEAM win, and not just a bunch of ego-driven stars - and the strength of the Greek team is that they showed that the other teams are just that.
Way to go, party hard, and god damn that Ouzo from yesterday left me with a helluvahangover.

Congratulations Greece. Nice to see that another small country can surprice just as Denmark did in '92. But next time I hope Greece will play more interesting football. The way you played remind me of Norway. Defense, defense and defense. A bit boring in the long run. But for sure effective. Again Congratulations. |
