Review of the BMF “Brasília Music Festival” (10/09/05)
Rafael Reisman production

Commercial two days party (09 e 10/09/05), with different dance floorsat the same time (hip hop + drum’n bass & techno + house & rock + trance & psytrance).

Line up of the trance & psytrance dance floor:

00:00 D-nox (ger)
02:00 Paul Van Dyk (ger)
04:00 Christopher Lawrence (usa)
6:00 Raja Ram (uk)
08:00 Domestic (Hom-Mega)
09:00 Black & White – live (Hom-Mega)
10:00 MACK (Spun)

Structure:

Big stage, dance floor divided between “normal area” and “VIP area”, the VIP area was closer to the DJs and the “Normal area” was behind the VIP area. No protection against the sun.

History:

I arrived when Van Dyk was playing, it was sort of a Live, there was two Apple Laptops on stage. I has already hearing sound problems, sometimes the high frequencies just disappeared from the sound system.

In the middle of Christopher’s set the sound stopped for several minutes. The crowd started to show unsatisfaction yelling and whistling. Me and my friends started to fear the worse: the same thing to happen with the psytrance artists. The DJ set had a lot of sound problems too, noises and sometimes no high frequencies…

In the middle of Raja Ram’s DJ set the noises become worse, scratching, like if the sound system couldn’t handle it. The bass was not responding as it should. As the set was continuing the problems were getting worse, and the sound quality was getting awful. We were worried: “How to hear Domestic, Black & White Live and MACK DJ set in these conditions?”

When Domestic started his DJ set the sound quality was horrible, he had to low the volume drastically and the bass was completely flat. The crowd once again showed their indignation… Between Raja Ram’s and Domestic’s sets the Black & White equipments were being installed on another part of the stage.

Domestic was without options, there was nobody to help him on stage!... He delicately searches for someone to help him behind the stage, but he has not found anyone and came back alone…

I saw to guys walking all over the stage, looking at the monitors, trying to find out the problem, and I was thinking: “Lets go, you shit sound technicians, you can’t fix the problems of your own sound system? Bunch of incompetents!!!”

To my surprise the “sound technicians” were in fact Samuel and Yaniv, the Black & White guys. In fact there were no sound technicians at all, and the B&W guys were all alone in that mess trying to fix the problems that the organizers left on their hands.

I thought: “It’s impossible to make a Live in these conditions, their names are on stake, there’s no way, the sound system is gone.” And that happened: The equipment for the B&W Live (Computer, Synths, Electronic Drums, etc) was removed from stage and placed back on their cases. Domestic received the order to stop the sound, you could see a BIG frustration on the artists’ and crowd faces… Before it stops there was already people showing their middle fingers and whistling on indignation.

When the sound stopped, a lot of people cursed the organizers, and at the same time some guys went out of nowhere and quickly removed the CDJs, only for this they were fast, to run away!

Dimitri Nakov (who played on the day before) and Domestic talked to some people who were on the VIP area, trying to explain it was not their fault.

Negative Points: ALL!

- Water price: R$ 3,00 = very expensive.
- No protection against the sun.
- VIP area, dividing the crowd into two classes, I never saw this before!
- Ticket Price: R$ 35,00 very expensive!
- I don’t drink, but the beer was bad.
- There was NO DECORATION. OK, there was some marketing outdoors, the organizers must think these are nice deco...

PS: Last year after Skazi had played 3 hours DJ Set, the Bamboo Forest Live started (and the technicians didn’t help the sound problems that were happen last year too). After 15 minutes they shut down the sound system, people complained, but without results. The security team ordered everyone to move out and once again they quickly removed all the equipment.

ARTISTS, PLEASE, do not attend to this kind of event, if you hear the name “BMF” run away. You’ll be avoiding a lot of problems and frustration, and at the same time the crowd won’t be deceived, they heavily use your names to promote this shit event.

The artists saw how the public were anxious to hear their sound… The cursing, the middle fingers, and all the complain were not for you, but for the organizers. We hope to see you on other conditions, it was really sad.

This is an absurd, complete joke!

The organizer Rafael Reisman should be considered a thief! This is the second time the Line Up was not respected!

The crowd, that paid very expensive for tickets, looses all the main attractions (Domestic + Black & White + DJ MACK, one of the best DJs here at Brazil, signed under Spun Records).

I was at Brasília, but I was not at this party. Friends told me the sound system was BROKEN right from the beginning, before Raja Ram start his set.

This is a joke, the city was full of flyers about this party, and Raja Ram was on the television promoting the party (Yes, Raja Ram at GLOBO TV, the biggest TV network of Brazil and the 4th biggest of the world).

Reisman showed complete lack of professionalism and respect for the artists and the public. He earn a lot of money and couldn’t care less about what was going on…

What a shame!
Respect!           .
...Be gentle with the earth...
...Dance like nobody's watching...

...I don't mind not going to Heaven, as long as they've got Coffee in Hell...

Reisman production don't know how to make this kind of party! BMF was a big deception, I didn't see any decoration, any worried with the equipaments!! It's the second time that this party finish with sound problems... That's ridiculous!

I saw the deception in the faces of Domestic and B&W too!! I hope to see this artists in a psytrance celebration, and not in the BMF shit production!! I will boycott all Reisman productions from now on, and I expected that the artists know what kind of party this BMF is.
(sorry my bad English)

Peace to all!!

I traveled miles to see paul van dyk, BW and DOMESTIC, and when the technicias removed the equipments i couldnt believe on that.

But one question, why didnt them move to the techno/house area???The techno/house shows had already stoped.

I know that there are some people who want their money back, evolved lawyers and more.

I asked the same question to myself. Why not moving to the house areas???

I'm disgusted to make a full review, so i'll say only a few things.

Vodka - 8 reais (more expensive than the whole bottle they used)

Deco - NO DECO AT ALL

Structure - No structure for the sun! I mean, nothing... People were literally burning!!

Soundsystem - In the first day, it was something close to OK... I think it was because there were less people than the 2nd day, so we had the impression that the sound was louder. In the 2nd day, the soundsystem was too low in the beginning, and i think that when raja ram played, he put it so loud that the sound couldn't handle. So it screwd up.

-First Day
I went there to see Dimitri Nakov and Bamboo Forest live.

Dimitri - Well, it wasnt his best dj set I saw... Actually it wasnt even close of his best. Mixing skills were OK, he is really good on this. But his music selection was really too POP for my ears. He played good tracks, but some not that good too. I saw him 2 days before, in Goiania, and his dj set was just AMAZING.

Bamboo Forest live - There had been a long time I didnt hear bamboo's sound. And i wasn't expecting anything good. Buuuut, Stephan sound is different than it used to be, it's much more danceable, i really liked it!! He played a remix to Daft Punk - Technologic which is very good IMO (it's not the same remix that wrecked machines and pixel did and are playing now).

Second day.
I'm not so into eurotrance or uplifting trance or whatever people call, so i didn't see PVD. Unfortunately I lost D-Nox, cuz i think I would be much tired to see B&W if I arrived the party that early. I arrived 6 o clock.

Raja Ram - The first three tracks left some hope in my mind that he wouldnt play a crappy dj set (and i'm not talking about mixing skills, only about music selection... Actually, he doesn't hv mixing skills at all), but when he played that rmx to Tribalistas (AGAIN...), i realized that there was no hope at all... Very bad dj set, as always. And actually he put the sound too loud, what contributed to break the speakers.

Domestic - With the trash soundsystem, he had to put the volume sooo down, it was hard to listen to the music. But what he played, was very good IMO. Great skills on mixing too. Unfortunately, he had to stop... 40 minutes of dj set ;(

After that I talked to Yaniv from B&W and he told me they really wanted to play, but it was impossible with that soundsystem. They were very disappointed. Oh, and Ido (Domestic) was very very angry.

What a shame, Rafael Reisman!!! No technicians on the dancefloor!!

Very bad party IMO!!!!
