I seem to notice that within the progressive style there are lots of tracks in the 135-140 range that sound trancier, and a lot of tracks in the 128 and below range that sound housier, but the 128-135 range, while not completely empty, is not as full. Has anyone else noticed this?

This is just looking at recent music btw

I agree there's a gap there nowadays. Recently, artists like Motion Drive, Flowjob, Vibrasphere, Haldolium, Quantize have made tracks in that "middle-ground" though. Also Liquid Soul and Ace Ventura have made tracks in that area.           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

Agree as well.
Seems like most "standard" Progressive is 135 Bpm.
Definitely Motion Drive makes some sweet tunes at lower Bpms, as well does Etic, Klopfgeister, Solar Spectrum, Synesthetic and this guy, Kliment:

yeah yeah but they are the Usual guys...

in my Opinion...Only FlowJob it's Doing a Great Job(LOL)Really Fresh Sounds...Daily Dragons(@ 132 Bpms) ...i dunn Wanna sound Bitchy,IMHO, Recently there is a Hateful STANDARIZATION OF THE PROGRESSIVE PSY @135(i don't talk About Every Producer in the Escene...Just the Obvious and im sure Many People Know those Names...) ...it's like Progressive FUll on some times...but Anyway...hope to see more Development in the Sound of the 130 to 135 in the next Months...

Mmmmm Motion Drive's album is so good

Either way, bpm is a state of mind, some slower stuff sounds faster and some faster stuff sounds slower. I think it's just a matter of how you want your kick and bass to sound (you can use a "bigger" sound in those in lower bpm without clouding other parts of the track from what I've come across).          http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

I think this gap always existed, at least in my CD collection and DJs will find their way to fill this gap. Some example with classics (call them old stuff if you want):

The Ace Ventura debut is all 135, except for Presence (130). Both FreQ albums are also mostly 135. Jaia - Fiction also floats around that (Serial Groover is 130, Orchestra 2.0 is 135), Aerospace first two albums are from 135 to 137.

Perfect Stranger - Changed is mostly 130 (a couple of tracks are 133). Perfect Stranger - Free Cloud is 130 and below, except for No 1 which is 133.

Tegma - Around the World is more diversified, Tegma Avantgard is 135 and higher, and Tegma Lo-Fi Adventures is 130 and below (except for Who Stole my Oscillator - 131). Ticon - 2 AM is more varied too.

Most of the stuff above is highly recommended, as I still play them on my sets and anyone can tell that the dance floor is pleased every time.
Respect!           .

I love more the 135-140 range, the new trend below 128 sounds too much like progressive house.

Son kite has some good trancks in the 128-135 gap, Focus and Colours           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

130 to 135 is very plesant to work with.
Think i'll focus more on that range nowdays.
below that feels abit to housey and to slow for my taste.

Solid Snake album is the deal!

On topic: I dont care about the BPM as far as the music sounds good to my ears & make me travel or/and dance.          We were born naked & grow up to become wicked.

Thanks Dogon

The slower it gets, the more sounds you can fit in (bounce baby bounce)
