Hi All..

I have a question i was wondering about that someone using Logic Pro might be able to answer. If you freeze tracks during production and leave them frozen, does the final stereo bounce of the track when done use the freeze files or still play the plugins from source? Not sure if i should unfreeze everything finally when done and bounce the whole track unfrozen? Or can i leave them frozen?

Your help is much appreciated all.. Greets from NZ.....

if the tracks are frozen and not bounced, they are frozen at 32-bit float which is the same as if they were played from the source

however, if you have the processor headroom to unfreeze them all, and still play the song, why would you freeze them in the first place?           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

cause when you bounce it offline, you are able to process things that would be impossible online....

no matter if you have a crappy or a supa-machine

nah, if anything, you can do less after they are frozen. also, be careful not to confuse offline or realtime bouncing with freezing as they are 2 entirely different things..

punkah, do you use logic? i get the impression you do not..

so if you have a crappy machine, freeze
if you have a super machine, then theres really no point to freezing..

the final bounce sums the audio from whatever source, be it freeze files, or synthesized source, or audio, so you decide           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

Ok thanks that helps.. Sometimes our projects are large and we have to use the freeze function to continue even though we have a powerful computer to drive Logic. If i unfrooze everything before the final bounce it certainly would not play in realtime. But it probably would offline bounce so was unsure the best way to bounce it. Sounds like it should be fine to leave them frozen anyway. Cheers...

Yeah your right cause when the AUs are frozen they then play just like an audio file... you can't edit at all after freezing which is restricting but not like changing to audio and removing the plugs..
theres been a few times where my frozen tracks havent been auditable in the final bounce.. so I usually unfreeze all tracks and bounce offline

no, in order for the ducking to take place, the compressor needs to be triggered in this case by the kick drum... if theres no kick drum, nothing is triggering the compressor...

what do you do?? bounce the bass pattern to wav/aiff and then side chain the audio file as opposed to the midi(bus)...

hope that helped!!

@ Daleks:
Yes, i use it, a lot.
What i told the guy is that for exporting the final bounce, it doesn`t matter having a supermachine or a crappy one, cause people regularly bounce it offline.
So ir you want to unfreeze everything before the final bounce, no problem...

@ Missing Link:
Simple... You can also try soloing the kick and the bass, and turning down the kick`s volume all the way down. SideChainer (the TC method) is a pre-fader insert, so turning down the volume won`t affect the way the compressor works.

@punkah

yeah, sorry about that, I re-read it now, and got what you said about offline bounce. sorry, my bad!

@ Missing Link
using the Logic compressor, you can also make the a pre-fader send from the kick to a buss, mute it, and use the buss as the side-chain input (this works if the kick is an AU also). you will still get the trigger on the side chain, and can solo the bass with the full effect. watch the compressor plugs trigger and you will see it lighting up even though the kick is off. also be sure to play around with the compressor's controls as there are some hidden parameters that can really sweeten the sound

peace!          Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!
