What encoder settings are you using?

You should be encoding @ at least 256, if not 320.

Also, are you compairing the bounce mp3 to a bounce .wav/.aiff? Often the simple playback 'volume' between a sequencer and your OS Media player may be different, it might not be a difference in the file itself. Compare a bounced .wav and .mp3 to see if your settings are really that off

Why not first make a .wav bounce, and convert it later ?

oh i was encoding at 192 ... hoops
its just that that was the size the site i upload on wanted it...
may be i will bouce down 2 times ...
one wav one mp3....

so if you guys were putting togethor a demo... you wold i guess use wavs and aiif to burn the cd with ... and not itunes....

Yeah, for sure.

192 isn't great, but it shouldn't be horrible either.... bounce it as a .wav and use a reputable third party mp3 compressor.           http://soundcloud.com/aeon604

i'm with aeon... for sites like soundclick u even have to go as low as 128 kbps, but if u use a decent encoder and if u have a decent .wav to start with only the hihats should really suffer (at such low bitrates the high frequencies really suffer badly, and u can't help that, not even with the best encoders)

Try use the Variable Bit Rate (vbr) setting on the mp3 encoder - that works well and good file size. What encoder you using? I get good results from LAME V 3.91

I always bounce down to WAV or AIFF files and then stick it either in Lame Brain (set encoding setting to Insain ) and it sounds nearly as good as the orginal.
Another thing to try is the Apple AAC with itunes.
