so guys this has been on my mind for sometime.. thing is i like to automate on my
synths and usually i have one or more synths running from beginning to some time.. and if i bounce this whole as one file, i have to forget about any changes that i want to bring in while working.. also since im adding more layers these days running all synths will crash my project...

was curious on how you guys work.. or if anyone can think of something for this case.. or am i forgetting something very basic?           re-arrange what you thought was real

i also usually leave my synths unbounced for some time. you can freeze your instruments which takes load off of cpu, and ofcourse a better cpu will help, for ones that i do bounce i just have backup projects that i go back to when want to make changes.

I usually only bounce if I am happy with the sound and I don't want to change it.

I also usually save projects under different numbers. So for example this track is called 'boomba'. I ll save it as boomba 01, boomba 02 etc. That way you can bounce stuff but if you want to change it you can go back to a previous version, make some changes, bounce that version and add it in the newest version of your track.

Or just upgrade your pc           soundcloud.com/supergroover

What Supergroover says... it runs into _11 or _12 sometimes just to be sure my 'undo'list is long enough.

What I used to do a lot when computers couldn't handle that much:

- bounce rythlm sections in wavs, can be a creative proces too because you got loops.
- bounce sounds on which there are cpu-heavy vst's
- bounce song length wavs of different parts for example: snares, kick&bass, hihats/percussion,... This will help your mix too because in the end you will have 6-10 long wavs of all the different sections which you can give a final eq.

I tend to work on a track until I want to mix it, then I save that as the Original mix, then when I freeze and bounce that's my Bounce mix, and then I have the Final Mix.

but that's not true. camon! you have so much control over an audio clip. actually so many artists bounce synths because they get more options for "changes" and further creative editing.

also remember that back in a day when there were no vst people had to bounce their hardware synths to be able to move on in a track. they managed to make amazing music

i know a producer that could never finish a tune with a vst.. and moving to analog modular and recording everyhting was like a revelation.. but probably wouldn t work for many... not something i would advice to someone that don t finish tune ,but it s often cause of finding suited workflow and discipline..

One thing you can try which might help is: you can save presets of your main sounds - which you may need to get back to, and even "channel settings" with all the processing you apply to them. I do that a lot, just as a precaution.

Besides freezing tracks, maybe bypass stuff you're not using.

Also think that stuff you do to audio after you bounce down your synthesizers plays a big role in psychedelic music. You cut, you stretch, you reverse, you transpose, you place faders there...

And it's good to compromise, like said above.

I am back to recording everything down as audio (like I did back in my old 733Mhz PC that could not handle heavy projects) as I made another track with almost exclusively, hardware synths.
Obviously, the same applies to software synths if you bounce down parts you are happy with and save up on CPU.

Some patches I was not happy with, I went back to re-programming the synths in question and re-recording them, but I managed to finish a track in less than 24 hours. Maybe it was luck, but everything just fell into place. Which is not always the case, but recording audio down and moving along with the track, goes a long way if you want to reach a deadline for a track you have to hand in to a label.

the problem is knowing when its 'good enough' to bounce down and move forward :\            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

or to not care about it much..as long as it s decent..its when looking for perfection that it become more complicated but is it really necessary..probably only to us, we can always come back to it later too..

some producer can bounce everyhting they have very fast workflow , they eq the kick they bounce it ect.. i think it s more cause of lake of confidence we dont do it, but its always possible to remake the sound..(also often the first tweak can be the best one..at some point it s easy to make things worst than better by spending more time on it and that without even noticing it )
