Hi.
I have moved from the LA area to the Boston area and looking for a nice international psytrance scene here.

So far the only pystrance group I have found that puts on shows regularly is Sonic Beating that puts on a monthly psyforia event. But I noticed it was much more of a rave/young people music scene than what the LA psytrance scene is (with groups like psytribe, moontribe, greensector and Heavy rotation).

I have only been to one Psyphoria event so maybe they play heavier music at other shows (at this one I didn't hear any psytrance). Also I am not sure if they bring international DJ's to town either.

I am wondering - does anyone know any older people (20-35yrs) psy-trance scenes in the Boston area? Or does it all go down in NYC....? Is Boston too Puritanical for Psytrance?

Thanks for any information or guidance....

International psy scene you will not find in Boston.

The last international act seen in Boston was Dimitri (Spun Records) played back in January of this year, and a few years back Boston certainly saw its days of International artists visiting town (Son Kite, Mr. Peculiar, Oforia, Penta, Talamasca, Noma, Karan, Absolum, Nomad)

Sonic Beating is the only crew in Boston putting on events at the moment. The majority of the djs involved with this event are playing progressive psy, so many of the shows tend more towards the progressive side of things. This months Psyforia should be an exception to that tho, as Karmakanik is sure to play some dark and spooky psychedelic music for halloween.

However, NYC is only a short 4 hr ride away on the Chinatown bus, and you will find your fill of international psy acts there for sure           ~gOa ist nicht nur musik sondern auch eine lebenseinstellung~

throwing events in boston is extremely difficult. the underground police task force has completely eliminated any permits that would allow an all night event.

that only leaves the clubs as an option unless you want to go renegade style, which does happen so you should keep in touch with sonic beating/changmian.

those guys are friends of mine and have thrown many excellent events with top-notch international talent. Every once in a while they mix things up musically, but have psytrance in their blood.

if you want something regularly to fill in the gaps between psyforia's, check out www.djgreenman.com Bryan puts on events in Western Mass. about 1 1/2 hours from Boston. I just played there recently and he has plans to bring out mubali and hopefully some other familiar cali friends.

keep up the hope. the beauty of new england is that its not far to get to any of the states, no matter where you are. enjoy the scenery and try to hit up some road trips to NYC.           We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

if you're craving some ripping full on action you will not be disappointed with psyforia this month

and check the sonic beating tribe at http://sonicbeating.tribe.net/

you can read people's profiles and stuff, there are a lot of older people in the scene.

Thank you all for the information. I will check out Psyforia again. Some people at the last show said it was a bit more mellow than usual..so maybe it was a rare occasion.

Just an aside....I don't actually like the really dark stuff, I am somewhere in between (like Astrix)

Anyways, I am not giving up hope....thanks again...
