Regarding the critics shown on the videos, about the sound system, I've just found this comment by Christof Drouillet in BOOM's facebook page:
"Just back from BOOM Festival...May be more than 20.000 people....and wouaou.....the Best Sound System Ever......Thanx to Funktion One.....Thanx to the Boom 2010 Team...."
I have to confess that I'm a layman in regards to this issue. Just thought it would be good to have a different perspective from someone who played at this year's BOOM.

I personally thought the sound system was awesome! Crystal clear, none of that low-end mud or high-end ear piercing harshness! Porbably best big sound system I've heard!
Yea, a lot of people who never heard better believe the Funktion One sounds good. That's normal. And also legitimate. In my opinion it doesn't necessarily tell me that this person hasn't good hearing. It might just tell me that this person just didn't hear whats possible in the 21. century yet. Funktion one is 20. century tech.
Also it highly depends the music. For most of techno and progressive trance it sounds quite good enough. Since little is going on in the mids.
It has very convincing attributes because it has a very good transient response in High and Low end which makes it sound very very "crisp" Many people get mislead by that and do not realize what funktion one does to the mids. and they don't realize how "rude" it actually sounds because it sounds also very "FAT" and "Crisp" which is something very intriguing.
I have played on the Funktion One at Boom 2008 and I clearly disliked it a lot.
I organized the Somuna Festival 2008 and 2010. In 2008 we had a d&B "Q" system and in 2010 We had a Kling and Freitag "Sequenza". Also the Summer Never Ends Festival in Switzerland had the "Sequenza" in 2009 and 2010. We had a couple of international artists there who had played on Funktions Ones before. Logic Bomb for instance. They said after hearing the Sequenza that they had always thought the Funktion One sounds good, but since they hear the "Sequenza" they don't anymore. Many of the international Artists were very impressed. This year the organizer of the Universo Parallelo was at the Summer Never Ends and even considered renting the systems FROM Switzerland TO Brazil! No kidding!
Believe me guys "Funktion One" is just ONE BIG HYPE anymore. It's time is OVER.
Now just everybody telling everybody it sounds good and just because it sounds better than the "worse than crap" systems on every psyparty everyone thinks it sounds good. But it just doesn't.
What sounds good? Just imagine a pair of very good hiFi speakers with subwoofer at home and turn them up so that 10000 people can enjoy the music in that quality. In that precision, in that detail. This is what a good soundsystem can do.
Furthermore the thing with the soundpollution left, right and behind the speakers and the thing with the "perfect spots" on the floor. Newer systems don't have those problems anymore.
Maybe some people who where at the Somuna or Summer Never Ends can tell their epxeriences with the sound quality.. it's just another dimension of music.
Look people, face it, many people don't know how to tell good speakers apart from others. and many people don't know most of the music played, so they have no comparison you just need to make the Bass VERY loud, fat and vibrating, make the HiHat sound CRYSTAL and tell them that the soundsystem is good and they will believe you. This is what happens at Boom.
In fact you just had to go to the sacred fire area and you could enjoy a soundsystem that had just SOO much more definition and sounded 1000 times more accurate than the funktion one... just.. it hasn't been hyped that way.. so few people noticed.
By the way. Good vibes:
I forgot to mention in the video how impressed I were by the many water taps and the water quality. Absolutely well done. Thank you Boom!

Hi people, for me it was a blast. It was my 6th Boom Festival and as always i had an incredible time, conecting and sharing experiences with people from all over the world, finding old friends and meeting new ones.In terms of organization we all now that its almost impossible to make a perfect festival but,for shure,it is becoming very close from perfection...
All the best to everybody and see you around.

I honestly don't think the funktion ones are that bad speakers (may a bit overrated)... from the ones i played on in festivals the function ones where still one of the better ones ...
Funktion one are just not good enough for a festival. Maybe ok for some not so serious event but if you are boom, this size and quality of festival it deserves the best possible soundsystem which funktion one clearly isnt.
Spoiled with quality??
If you really love music there isnt such a thing.
If People and peoples ears are used to bad quality so much that they think they have to put up with less than a sequenza it makes me sad. Why bother with compromises if the real thing is available? Most parties and festivals can afford real quality mostly anyways or even for sure if they cut a little back on light or decoration. But somehow some people either dont know quality or think that blinking lights are more important.

I didn't mean it this way ... my thoughts were that its probably hard to get the K&F to some other country (to Ship it and i guess its not soooo cheap to rent as well ... we can be lucky that we have the SNE and Somuna who put such a great Soundsystem ...

The sound was pretty bad at the dance temple. The bass was soo fawkin loud even when I was wearing my protectors, choking the whole music down. But I found a lot of people like that, just give the boom boom, the rest is not so important. I guess its taste after all but for me, it made me not spend much time in the temple.

I have to react to the bullshit you are writing.
I am an experienced sound engineer, worked in the live and studio recording industries for over 25 years now, distributing Nexo & L-Acoustics, now exclusive Funktion-One distributor. I visit all the pro-exhibitions in europe, every single year, and listen to all the systems that come out.
You are a psytrance artist trying to explain that F1 has no good mids, that is very funny indeed.
If you want to try out a system, please forget about trance music, in fact forget about all electronic music genres, play some acoustic music with female voice, then you may have a chance to actually hear how the mids react.
Please read what real sound engineers have to say about our systems, and do not make pointless explanations when you clearly have the wrong tools to determine whether a system is good or not.
Check those links for your information/consideration:
And next time you perform in a festival play some of this as before your set, if you really want to know how the system, responds to complicated programs, not to boom/tchic:
BRAHMS - Clarinet Quintet (Track 4 — 'Con Moto').
NITIN SAWHNEY - Beyond Skin (Track 6 — 'Nadia').
NORAH JONES - Come Away With Me (Track 3 — 'Cold Cold Heart').
REBECCA PIDGEON - The Raven (Track 12 — 'Spanish Harlem').
These are examples, there are many other quality recordings that will help you realize the full potential of a system.
The fact that trance music sounds good on a system doesn't mean the system is good!!! Trance, as all electronic musics is not benchmark for systems, far from it.

To me Boom's still the best festival on the planet by far.
Sure there's always room for improvement...sometimes it seemed the timeslots were decided on at random basis, but fuck it...as a whole the Boom experience transcends the Trance festival concept and it can be nothing short of life transforming. The amount of love and care that goes into this whole enterprise is something truly special and serves as a great example for human society today. I heard some speaker say: "we're the 5% that's gonna make a difference" and wandering around at Boom, surrounded by all these beautiful people certainly made me feel that way.
Highlights for me were Sandman (!!!Wow last time I heard him was in '96 or something...it was so nostalgic to rock out to Sandman surrounded by hundreds of freaks & blacklights 8), Psychopod (same same), Green Nuns, Allaby, Eat Static, System 7, Flip Flop, Liftshift (rockin bro!), Ace Ventura, totally bummed I missed A guy called Gerald & Sonic species. Wanted to see Ishq but the toxic fumes from the nearby toilet area made it unbearable heheh..sounded lush from a distance though. Boom = WIN

Good for you that you like the system you are distributing.. no wonder. you should since you want to sell it. Does't really make you independent though, does it?
About what you say about "mids" and psytrance. Its partly true, but also maybe we are just talking about different psytrance. But generally your statement seems very "general" to me. As if there wasn't psytrance with the full spectrum in etc.. By the way the accoustic music I heard on the funktion one at Boom sounded also quite bad for me. As if "loudness" was on. Way to agressive, boomy and edgy.
However I give you that: So far I've heard the F1 only at boom. Maybe it's just the way it's tuned there. But the performance I heard during Boom 2010 was really bad. There were few times, when the volume was down and the air rather cool, when I stood perfectly in the middle of the floor when I thought, well now it really sounds acceptable and I couldn't complain, but also I wasn't thrilled by the detail. Most of the time it was just unbearable, and sounded really really bad.
The best tools to determine if a system is good or not are my ears. And Funktion One tried to destroy them during 7 days.
And of course a soundsystem doesn't sound good because psytrance sounds good on it. I never said that. Only a morron would sell his system that way... and only a morron would build a soundsystem for psytrance or electronic music... cause a good soundsystem sounds good with ANYTHING...
Don't make any assumptions about my training if you don't know anything about it. Otherwise I start making assumptions about the health of your ears after 25 years in that business.
Look, you find a good review for anything. It wont change my mind. I know what I hear and what I heard at boom was a bad performance 90% of the time.
By the way. I organize a Festival with all kinds of music, accoustic, electronic etc. I wouldn't even use a F1 if you would give it to me for free. And I'm very serious about that. Feel free to come and listen to what we do there and then let me know if you can beat that.

I agree with subconsciousmind
Funktion One is a very well marketed hype.
I don't like it.
I don't like the look and the shape of the boxes.
I don't like the name.
I don't like the sound of it....very plastic and omeogenic.
My ears are suffering after being exposed to it for a long time.
I don't like the hype.
The sound is too compressed by the processor.
The mids have smashed transients.
The bass is loud (too loud) but it is a very present and high pressure low-mid (maybe down to 50hz and cut the rest) and it doesn't really dig deep under and is not round.
I never seen an F1 used for other kinds of music other than dance electronic music...and actually in that realm it become almost a suspicious monopoly.
so why should I listen with it to :
BRAHMS - Clarinet Quintet (Track 4 — 'Con Moto').
NITIN SAWHNEY - Beyond Skin (Track 6 — 'Nadia').
sorry...this are the usual "experienced" sound guy bullshits !
nobody listen to Brahms with 100kwh F1...tell me in which opera house they use F1 instead of Genelec or Nexo....
instead you should consider that a good soundsystem for a dancefloor where ppl spend a week almost non stop...should be not harmful and aggressive...and make ppl deaf at the end of the festival.
good luck with your biz 303
I will do all what I can to destroy your F1 mythology.
