I heard there were douche bags protesting the playing of progressive/minimal psy trance with placards & body paint on the main stage to the point where security had to get involved?

Boom 2010 review
We (my Gf and me) just arrived on Sunday afternoon as i was also playing at the "Utopia" (After Boom) and i didn't want to stay 12 Days in a Festival
As we arrived to the Festival everything seemed to be running smooth
and we seen many happy people
We toke our Tent in the Artist Area where we should sleep the next 4 Days
In the night from Sunday to Monday i was supposed to play at 2.00
so we headed for a quick dinner (Pizza) and went after to the Groovy Beach stage
The Groovy Beach is the "Alternative Stage" from Boom
where Dj's and Live Acts had the chance to experiment a bit with Music
Amazing Decoration there
compared to the mainstay which was very boring decorated
We arrived at the Groovy Beach around 0.30
a Dj was playing Dubstep and some kinda DnB
which was nice
but i felt the Line up didn't have a flow at all
it went in all directions during the days i spent there
from Techno to Dub to Raggae to House to DnB with no line in it
I really enjoyed playing for this fantastic Crowd
but i didn't really understand the concept there
after me "a guy named Gerald" toke over the dj booth
he played some kinda downtempo oldschool techno
which didn't fit after my Set at all
as my Set didn't fit to the previous one
rapid style changes all over
After a while we went to sleep as we knew it gonna be very difficult to sleep during the day as it was freaking hot
A few hours of sleeping and we woke up in the sauna (our tent) no Shadow or anything there that covered the tent a bit from the sun
so there was no other way as to get out the tent after like 3 hours of sleep
I had to go to the Bathroom (the biological Artist bathrooms)
as i arrived there i almost had to throw up from the smell in there
not to speak about how the bathroom looked
nevermind i managed to use that bathroom
and went to take a shower (the showers were great !)
After this we walked direction Dancefloor again
and seen everything by Daylight
"The Drop" was one of the Stages which was very impressive Decorated
Amazing bamboo - and wood constructions
very beautiful
we passed by there and checked also the Artgallery which had some impressive paintings from different Artist
So we headed to the "Dance Temple"
which was the Mainstage
The decoration there was very poor compared to other years
the roof actualy built a nice Shadow
which was great to dance
but nothing special for the eye at all
looked to me more like a big circus - tent with different colors
the Stage for the artist was also not really special
some Videoprojections
. and a Star made out of Fabric
where the dj was hidden while playing
The Crowd on the mainfloor was one of the most Intollerant i ever have seen
ppl had bodypaintings ,placards where was written things like : "No Low BPM music please"
"Dj go home"
and so on
also i heard few times people screaming "buuh" at the dj or live when they finished
.
i mean common
it was 40 degrees some days
how should someone manage to dance to 145 bpm in this heat
i preferred a bit slower music during the hot days
But also on the Mainfloor
there was NO concept in the lineup
it went from Fullon to Progressivhouse and then to Oldschool and so on
It was a great thing from the organizers to put Drinkingwatertabs right beside the dancefloor
so everyone had water nearby and had the chance to refresh themselves
The other days i've been there i enjoyed actualy to meet friends i haven't seen for a while ,having a nice time with my Gf
and having conversations with the "REAL GOACROWD" who thought they are the founders of psytrance and complained as soon as the music was slower then 140 bpm
what an intolerant crowd
sorry but things change with time
and people change with time
and some slowmusic during the day was just more then welcome
In the last day of the Boom festival i actualy wanted to go to sleep after System7 last Track (which was the closing of the mainfloor)
but suddenly i felt like on Acid (and i was sure i didn't take anything)
at first i thought it was maybe the vibe and my emotions
but as it got stronger and stronger and stronger i knew what was going on
and i tried to go to my tent to sleep
my gf stayed on the dancefloor
no way i could sleep
i was on a veryveryvery high dose of acid
and i didn't know what level it gonna reach in the highest point and was absolutely not prepared for that
i suffered from it quite hard and found myself in places that i didn't know how i got there
This IDIOT who did this to me has no responsibility for a drug like that
lucky i was used to it as i did it when i was younger ... someone else could have probably stayed fucked up for the rest of their live
i had to leave the next day to the after boom a 4 hours busied
which scared me a bit
i was lucky to have some good support of my Gf
When we arrived at the Utopia (After Boom) i felt already way better
as the venue there was very nice
a lot of Shadow from the trees
and a much more relaxed Vibe
We had a hotelroom with a balcony which was really nice to relax
at 0.00 i finally managed to sleep after being awake for like 40 hours
i played at the at 11.00 the day after so i had a nice day to relax and find myself again
When i played i had a nice crowd
i had good fun playing there
and enjoyed my last days in Portugal
Bottom Line Boom :
Decoration : the Bamboo and Wooddecoration was amazing
Also the flowers near the mainfloor
the Mainfloor itself was needing something more interesting
Chillout and Groovybeach were also very nice decorated
Music : i heard some very nice Sets
but the lineup was a bit a mess
Food and Drinks : a lot of choices and in my opinion a good Barconcept
enough drinkingwater for free as well
Infrastructure : Great
. just sometimes the lines at the ATM was huuuuuge
All over :
Boom had a lot of positive and negative sides
i think they can improve themselves in some ways for 2012
Organisationwise i can't really complain
as most things went down smoothly
but here and there i think they could have done better
specially Lineup and Mainstage decorationwise
compared to 2006 i was a bit disappointed
So thats it from my side
maybe i will see u all in 2012
maybe not
I thank the Boomcrew for putting a lot of effort to make this festival happen
some things propably just went a bit out of their hands
All the best --->
Simon
P.S.: we found 3 cellphones in 2 days and brought them to the lost and found
i hope they found the way back to their owners
P.S.: sorry for spelling mistakes ...

hey Dear Simon, I am sorry for seeing that some IDIOT has drugged yourself (how come? Drink?) .... Stupid guy! Thank΄s God nothing worst has happened.
About that LOOSERS with bodypaintings, placards, etc... What can we say? IMO they still stopped on time, waiting for the King of The Hippies come and play some 170 bpm music at midday! SHAME ON THEM.

so much for P.L.U.R, no wonder I haven't been interested in going to festivals/gigs much as I've heard similar stories from many friends in Europe the last 2 years actually.
I had tickets to 4 festivals in 2007 but ended up selling them to other people and going to the summer metal festival in Europe, and after talking to the people who went to the psy festivals we agreed I got the better deal at least crowd wise!
Was planning to do some psy festival hopping next year but may just go metal again.

where is the trance in boom???
I wanna know...
All days, after 1pm...just minimal/tech at mainstage...
no decor...
strange...
You think Im looser, cause I go to Boom and wanna hear trance???
Looser are who put James Monroe playing minimal after Man With No Name!
And Gui, you are very wrong IMO when u say the poeople like trance, are loosers, stoped on the time...respect others first...
I like to much progressive trance, but dont see NOTHING of progressive except Ace Ventura...
ALL days, minimal at afternoons...at MAINSTAGE???
for what boom has the Groovy Beach?
Keep psychedelic please!!!

@tHuJoN
the drug thing sucks...sorry you had to go through it
Regarding Boom:
definitely a step up regarding 2008 (for me the worst boom ever)in all areas. I was lucky with my bathroom experience and was even surprised by the level of cleanness (you artists are full of shit ).
The bamboo/cane constructions were amazing and really filled the festival space. A word for the ingenious bell temple. The groovy beach was beautiful, main was also nice (night time was great with all the projections) though the star where the dj/live act played in didnt work for me. After 2006 edition the chill-out is struggling...this year i found it very small!!! Music wise i agree with tHuJoN regarding the structure of the line-up in the main stage and groovy beach. Specially this last one was structureless and hard to get the groove!!!! Really enjoyed the sets by Filteria, The Nuns, Mental Broadcast, Antonio Testa, Tamiris,Jacques Dudon, Haltaya, Ankur, Makyo, Aodioiboa and Jahbo....didnt manage to see Eat Static
I confess that i didnt spent that much time in the Groovy Beach and everytime i went there i wasnt "catched"...
Overall i found the line-up a tad weak and a bit out of structure...and its true that from 1pm to 22pm you could not dance psy-trance in the Boom (or almost). There is Groovy beach so no point in having masses of tech house and minimal in the main floor!!!! prog disappeared from Boom festival, anyone with info on the subject please contact 1 800 where's prog?
This new side of the lake is great and a blessing with the scorching heat present everyday!!!! I counted 147 swims in the lake
This was a Boom made with our fitness in mind...i walked kms everyday!!!!! A negative comment on the price of beer...2.5euros for a can of beer that costs less than 50cents is a bit too much!!!! Nice food and, surprisingly, prices were in many stands pretty decent!!!!
Overall i had a great time, really enjoyed the people and met friends from all over the world!!!! I got somehow a nostalgic vibe from this boom being with friends that i didnt see for so long and finding the crowd "freakier" than last editions...which was nice!!!!!

@psychowave
I think it is fair to point out that a typical 24hrs at the Dance Temple went like this:-
20.00hrs - 12.00 midday (16hrs):- Full On Psy (ranging from classic Goa to dark/hard)
12.00hrs - 17.00hrs (5hrs):- Progressive
17.00hrs - 20.00hrs:- break for cleaning etc
You seem to want to eliminate the 5hrs progressive period. This is quite clearly unfair! A lot of people like progressive, and it works well in the hot afternoon. As well as Ace Ventura in the progressive period there were acts like Perfect Stranger and Son Kite and DJs like Emok (Iboga Records).
Yes I agree the programming between acts was a bit unweildy at times, but the basic format was good.
Let's have less of this genre fascism please - it is definitely not a psychedelic attitude. The psychedelic family has many different branches and we all come together at Boom.
Respect to all!

4 names for a 7 days festival is not a great argument I saw some nice proggy acts but they were not the main flavour in the dance floor after 1pm....

Also Sally Doolally, Antix, Allaby, Edoardo? I've now named 8 of the 16 acts in this controversial midday to 5pm period. But this is not about names per se - it's about the basic principle that it's OK to drop the BPMs below 140 in the hot afternoon, and a lot of people like this... |

I totally agree that low bpms are very welcomed in the afternoon, morning or even at night...i have no issues with bpms!!! I just thought that with Groovy Beach available, i wish to see less tech house and minimal (many times with low quality and boring) in the main floor...i missed some slow bubbly sounds in the dancefloor, some silly tunes or playful music...

I had a great time @ Boom 2010!
Great installations and structures, with so many things to do and to see. The pictures speak for themselves. And the lake, the sunsets, and the landscape, wow! You really felt apart from the rest of the world.
It was a bit too hot on the first 3 days, then it cooled down a bit and a lit breeze came
thank God! It was just perfect that they set on the main floor those sprinklers, which poured down tiny drops of water. It really cooled down the air inside the Dance Temple. Thumbs up for that
Boom showed its really more than just a trance festival. The Drop was amazing!! Great art and great discussions for the people who were willing to lose one or two hours of music. Sacred Fire was also beautifully built and with great music in the end of the days. Chill out was also great, with a fantastic garden built just on the side, with speakers and nice resting spots in the middle of the trees. Not sure if many people discovered it! But it still did not reach the level of the chill in 2006 (best Ive ever seen). Also very good (and funny) was the bells temple. But besides all this, however, the main attraction of the festival is still the Dance Temple. And also I dont understand why in a festival that has such a great area as the Groovy Beach, and this year so fantastically built and decorated, there is still non trance music in the main floor. Sorry to say it, but sets like the ones by Slater and James Monro would be better listened to on the Groovy Beach and not on the Dance Temple. Musically, the highlights for me here were Gus Till, Green Nuns, Djane Gaby, Lifshift, Mapusa Mapusa, Man With No Name, Dj Treavor Walton, Allaby and Ace Ventura.
This issue, about prog house, techno and minimal music in the main floor of festivals, is not only being discussed here, but also on the Ozora 2011 topic. And if Im not mistaken, I also read a similar discussion on the Universo Paralelo board. It is a symptom that many festival goers are somehow dissatisfied with some musical choices of the organizers. I consider myself an open minded person, and I listen to lots of different sounds, but here I have to agree that it makes more sense to play more alternative sounds (alternative to trance that is) on the Groovy Beach or a similar alternative stage at festivals. And this is not being intolerant! Prog House, Techno, Minimal, etc, would still have their space
As for the downsides, and off course in a festival of this magnitude there are always things that can be improved, instantly to my mind comes the distance between the car park and the festival site. It was too far away to walk on the hot sun with all the camping gear. Also there were showers not working. And off course the smells on some of the bathrooms, despite they were cleaned everyday (also the heat was an ally to the bad smells). However, I have to say that people tended to use always the same bathrooms. I used the ones near the Sacred Fire and they seemed to be untouched.
I've found a page on facebook to leave your critics to BOOM 2010. If you want to leave your negative impressions on the festival and what can they do to improve, just follow this link:

i honestly understand the disapointement about the lets call it "boring" music on the dancefloor ... i don't want to classifie any style here ...
I went a few times to the Groovy Beach ... but the music there often didn't catch me as well ... as im not too much into Dubstep, DnB, or Dub ... and often during the day this kinda music has been played there ...
I think what ppl missed was Progressivpsytrance ... more like Ace Ventura, Symphonix, e.t.c.
Sally Doolally, Antix, Allaby, Edoardo?
non ofthem realy played progressivpsytrance ...
Sally played : Proghouse
Antix : something inbetween Techno and Proghouse.
Allaby : was close to Progressiv but still very Fullonish ...
And Eduardo sounded Fullon to me as well ...
P.S.: i think it also happens because some dj's grew to other styles with the time ...as slater played Progressiv years ago ...and nowadays hes more into slower music ...
Tribal Vision was active in the progressivpsyscene for a long time ... and thats probably why he got booked ... maybe the one who did the line up didn't check hes latest Sets ...
The same with James Monroe ... he played Psytrance long time ago and mooved towards more "slower" music as well ...
may some people still expecting him to play Flying Rhino Stuff ... but i think as he kinda "quit" flying rhino long time ago and opened the Label Tropical Beats ppl should know what to expect from him if they checked the latest TB record releases ...
