Well what can I say, this is definitely one of the finest, most original pieces of electronic music I’ve heard in a while. Way to go doof and keep on up there bonky, you’re probably giving them a decent party….
The use of samples is so cool, a story in every track
1 trumpet
the melancholic intro throws you immediately to bonkys death but as the track kicks in its nothing but happy, jazzy, psy for any time in the party
2 no idea
one of my favorites, trippy, can’t stop moving in my seet.
3 wok
this one makes you giggle, bruce lee slashes and throbbing baseline. psychedelic
4 hill billy
I love it, really original and psychedelically funky. Great party warm-up tune.
5 zapper
this is night on acid, the woop sound is excellent, love it.
6 alu gobi
flash back to acid-test. Didn’t hear this for a long time- its darkish and it works. Funny to catch the whole track spins around bonky ordering food on the phone at an Indian hotel.
7 mission
where is this sample from? This track is still night stuff but its starting to light up, more packed with sound.
8 hallucinations
this a rather fast psychedelic, lots of Atari sounds- less my cup of tea.
9 jazz bloppers
finishing up with a smile on my face, this one’s jazzy again and very liquidly psychedelic.
10 the video clip
wow, wish I could be there, and the funeral shots at the end really throw reality in your face. Life is so fragile, gotta party all the way, love.
In total, a must for acid lovers
My personal favorites : 2,4,5,6

i bought it yesterday, when i wrote the above post...my impressions weren't settled than, but after listening to it for about 8-9 times now...i can say WOOOOOOOWW!!!
it is soo psydhedelic and hilarius, psychedelia created by a unique and complex mind rather than by complex sounds. don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it sound is simple coz it isn't! but the ideas, the way tracks are structured is what has really impressed me.
psychedelic is a term explaining somthing which alters and plays with your mind, so it has to be created by a tryly psychedelic head. this one is a great example of psychedelia, in literal meaning of the word...IMPRESSIVE!
i can't find a favourite track, coz all the tracks are my favourite, all of them have so many tricks which fry your brain, and above all - it's filled with enormous amount of misterious energy....it indeed is a jewl!
the atmosphere is rather dark, just untill he uses a trick which will make u laugh and wonder...OMFG is this possible?
and about the video clip...i've never been nor seen such a party with so much energy...and crocodiles dancing arround after all of that, the end of the clip (the funeral)made me really sad in the same time helped me realize that BONKY was a person that shouldn't be forgoten and should be celebrated...which is what i'll do (celebrating him) whenever i'll have the oportunity to play somewhere...by playing his tunes.
btw i'm really looking forward to hear some more tunes from HOMINUS NOCTURNA, his track on VA triund really did fuck up my brain!
greets!
  Why u little !!! |

Listening to this album via the ears of the present, sadly to say, even though it is just the mind speculating, you can hear a strong autobiographical scent with this one. Bonky's music, release, is a very personal one & is more of a concept release than its kind.
I didn't know Bonky, apart from his music, & the more I listen to his creation the more I get the feeling that through it I am obtaining an inner look, possibly just a shallow one, of a person full of laughter, color, optimism, insight & of a total Psychedelic nature .
Bonky blends in tightly places, styles, sceneries, visuals, that might have (speculating) once been apart of him or at least around him in some given time in his history, effected him, loved or disliked etc....
I'll leave all those small clues/questions & focus on the main deal, his love for music, especially psychedelic trance.
Bonky cooks up 9 underground flavored tracks that can best be described as deep, dark, raw, aggressive, progressive, psychedelic goodies wrapped with mischief & humor.
The CD opens calmly with a sweet jazzy piece, as the title indicates including the dominating "Trumpet" among other instruments, sliding slowly, kick skids in, aggressive but still very funky & jazzy all the way through.
"No idea" why I love this one, nice beat, great sound games, minimalist & monotonous.
"Wok" is another funny one & is sort of a dedication to the master of Kung Fu, Bruce the psychoactive Lee. Resembling the "Trumpet" in the way the theme is inserted in totally, giving the track a special feel, not only by the samples but especially by the atmosphere it possesses.
A country classic including a sample of a traveling man returning home to Nashville, Tennessee, a square dancing legend, opens the next track, but aside for spicing up the opening, mid, and closing scenes with humor this track moves up the beat pushing the aggression we got accustom to further.
From this point the CD takes a more aggressive twist slowly progressing as we move from track to track, all deep raw & ragged.
"Jazz Bloopers" the closing track takes us back to those more conceptual personal tracks I was mumbling about bearing the Bonky signature & a good way to end this cruise. A Frank Sinatra like opening, sleeping man snoring in the background, groovy baseline steps in, yet another psychedelic quest is set forth.
To sum it all up, the sound might not be perfect, but is perfect in grasping a tiny look at a man rooted in nature, happy, whose life was filled with places seen, people met, fruits tasted...
This is a set of tracks which posses great character, aggressive, dark, progressive, twisted & totally acidic full of the DOOF spirit he is a part of.
RESPECT.
Official label release information:
This album was completed by Onno Borgen, shortly before he died. 9 new tracks from BONKY mirroring his unique personality fast beats and funky grooves paving the path to acid land. Onno died in Bali, Indonesia on Saturday the 4th of January 2003 in a diving accident.
Water was his element and to water he gave his last breath.
Onno was born in Calgary, Canada on September 5, 1962, and was active in the trance scene for the last 9 years, living and creating in Amsterdam.
He was a true psychedelic artist with a distinctive style. After releasing tracks in various labels he created his first album together with Fungus Of Light which was released in 1999. His first solo album was released on Doof records at the end of 2001 and lit up dance floors around the globe. His life was short but full of music and fire and he died happy.
He was a true friend and we shall all miss him.

not a bad release... a very good mix of diff styles on diff tracks... maybe not a dj;s favourite but good production/

Bonky died in a diving accident on a holiday. It's sad really, since he has made some really original tunes!!
