i have no experience with both (altough i heard bm6a once and i was really amazed) but my tip here is get the active unless you already own that amplifier. when you don't it's better to get the active as you'll pay less for an amplifier that just fits the bm6.
anyways, congrats for your album as it's my favorites of 2006 and thanks for the april fools live here in portugal

Well,i know people that use bm6 with amp(my profesor and few other sound engineers),and there is a good reason for that.In most of active monitors a kind of a lmiter is built in (for overexcursion protection and cliping).Thats unwanted for shure!Generaly, some good single amp is allways better than one in active monitor(no matter which one),and espacialy if you connect it digitaly...

I use passive BM6 with Crown 300A Series II studio amp for 3 years now and it is the best combo ever.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

Hi Stas, i'm in this situation to but i'm thinking to go with the active ones coz thay different

BM6:
Crossover: 3100 Hz
Slop crossover: Woofer 6db/oct , Tweeter 12db/oct
Frequency Response: 43 Hz - 20 kHz
Response Frequency: 54 Hz

BM6A:
Crossover: 2200 Hz
Slop crossover: 24db/oct
Frequency Response: 41 Hz - 21 kHz
Response Frequency: 49 Hz

and more.... but those are the main specs that will effect the way thay sound, the slop crossover in the bm6 is more soft then the active one and the crossover point is in different location's so the mid will sound abit different but if this is not a problem for you so go with the passive one and for sure buy a good amp for them, the Crown 300A seems like a good amp for them.

My situation is abit different coz i want to add the bm6a to my Yamaha msp5.

well we have mackie hr824, and the biggest problem in the mix is the lows, cuz 8 inch monitors are to big for our room

and bm6 are more than perfect for make the eq and the mix around the low's. the only problem with the active ones is they get overloaded to easyly..

i heard from alot of artists that use with the crown amp and they more than happy, more or less the same sound if not better than the active ones, and much mmore gain.           www.myspace.com/vibetribestudio

well if you want to go loud yeah, an amplifier is the best solution.
