hehe
or maybe psytrancers are the only ones who know what's going on so they can actually spot it

Na, you go to a regular EDM show you find the same jaded/cynical crowd. Even more so in some cases. Lots of trainspotters at most of the international shows I have ever been to. I would say the former inference is much more accurate, that there alot of posers in the psytrance scene. |

or perhaps it's because "live" sets are more common and/or valued in the psytrance scene vis a vis other EDM scenes where dj sets are the norm. |

Would you consider playing on a synth/midi controller for an international act billed as "LIVE!" - with nothing plugged in but the power, as being worthy of submission?

what about the 'djs' who use this same technique with ableton without even using their own tracks??
at least the producer has spent time working in the studio and not just matching wavs...

everyone approaches DJing differently. I can't really deal with Ableton. For me being able to do everything live in the moment is the most important thing. Some people prefer to have more carefully pre-planned and executed sets with various fx via Ableton. I don't know if one approach is better than the other, just think if it sounds good, that's all that matters. A great pre-recorded set sure beats an average "live" set. Is a great live set better than a great pre-recorded set? I think so. But how many sets that big-name DJs play are completely live anyway?

Well put.
My sentiments exactly!
Seriously, what about the people who are dancing far away from the stage not looking over artist's shoulder to see what kind of software and in which way is used? Should they feel fooled because the set isn't "live" enough?
In my opinion, ultimately a live act (or live PA to be exact) is comprised of two components: the person who made the music and the music itself. The presence of an author of the music that is being played is important to people, it makes an event more special.
That is not to say that DJs and artists should act like rock-stars and pretend they are doing something meaningful just for the looks.
I am yet to see that "100% real live act" done with a laptop, a DJ mixer and a hardware synth. Any examples in the psytrance scene?

That is because it's incredibly easy to fake out a "live" set. Very few people at a party are even pondering the possibility and the vast majority don't care.
I've seen you and your buddy though playing that trumpet and doing kung-fu moves over the alesis air pad ...buncha fakers

I'm never going to forget that one and only time i went to see Skazi(because of a friend, really!).
He was jamming with his guitar so hardcore that he yanked the cable and it unplugged. He continued playing for about 5 minutes when finally the guy behind the keyboards went to him and plugged it back in.
I felt like a moron being there and then. the sky was pink |

What in everybody's opinion DOES constitute a "100% real" bonafide live act? An honest question for the discussion.
