true , but Fruity sound is way Rounder
i use both , Fl for creation , inspiration , cool tools etc.
cubase is the best audio editor
midi work is a hassle in cubase for me , just terrible.. as long they dont have midi learn they suck big time on workflow... linking controlers is my main fun , and i cant be botherd to search cc numbers evry time.
if you are not 100% satisfied with Fl cubase is awsome add/replace to it.. for me they complete each other.. but if you are happy with Fl and you only wanna change cause people told you so.. good luck in life.. hehe

I don't think it really matters what daw you are using, as long as you keep getting challenges from your software, there is still lots to learn.
Been using FL 6-7-8 for 3½ years now. And I must say that there is still lots for me to learn. And sound, well, if you tweak, you can make any program make any noise you want

FlStudio rewired to Cubase/Nuendo for the win.
btw trev Im surprised, I always thought to myself that you already have such clean sounds... much more crisp than mine in my opinion
For sure learn Cubase but I don't think it will help you write better or cleaner music. |

There was an issue with early versions of FL but as far as I know that has been resolved.

if you are interested in making music then it makes sense to learn as many DAWs as is reasonably practical. they all offer different tools, approaches, methods and workflows and being aware of other ways of working helps you to think differently about your main DAW!

When it comes down to it, all the major and most of the minor features exist in every DAW, it's just a matter of how you as a user can execute them. That becomes a matter of personal preference.
I feel a good test is to take a full song you've completed and rebuilt it from the ground up in another DAW. That way you'll experience the workflow & tools without having to concentrate on sound creation & song structure.
If you are going to try CuBase 4, then most definitely give Sonar 8 a try. I honestly feel it continues to outpace Cubase in many areas when it comes to workflow design, and innovation.

I used FL up to version 7, from 2005 to 2007 before moving over to Cubase.
Never, ever looked back. Cubase feels a lot more heavy duty compared to FL, the amount of control you have over all aspects of your sound is incredible and I think it just sounds better.
BUT, I haven't used v8 of FL. I've heard from many people that it's a real step up from 7 and has finally made FL a real contender in the sequencer wars. |

I woudn't buy Cubase 4 until you try Cubase 3. I've read alot of problems with cubase 4 , maybe they are fixed by now , but still.
I know electrypnose was talking about being cautious of upgrading to 4, but he might have resolved his previous issues.

I've owned Cubase 4 for quite some time, it's much more stable than SX 3 was at this point, so I don't think there is any need to worry about stability.
I started with Fruity Loops 1.3
Moved to Reason 1.0, 2.0, 2.5
Moved to Logic 5.5
Moved to Cubase SX 1, SX 2, SX 3
Gave ableton a good run for the money v5 & 6
Tried Samplitude v8 for a while
Used Sonar 6 & 7 for a while
Went back to Cubase SX3
Bought Cubase 4
One thing I noticed (at least for me) was that I never felt limited in Cubase. Every other program I felt like there were things that I couldn't do that I was able to do in Cubase.
It just works in a way that seems natural to me and doesn't limit what I can do and thats why I chose Cubase and will stick with it for a very long time.
Ultimately it's all about what works for YOU and what feels right for you.
I would definitely try it out for a while if you can first, get used to it, and then make your decision.
