hello mates !!
question
can a very big buffer size (313ms-2653 or something samples)cose cpu problems??
all this is happening on a 2.8 pentium laptop with 512ram but with the motherboad sound card an av-rack or something.
all of this in fl studio.
the problem is at some times when everything i playing ok with a 54%performance in a second it jumps to the 100%performance and i have to press stop and play to start the playback again
thanks in advance

Which VSTi's are you using? I have the same problem using blip.dll. It's a nice little free vsti but it sucks for this reason... cpu running wild from 13% to 100% and back causing sound to halt. Rendering is the only option. As for your buffer size: why do you have this extreme large buffer size? Normally it would do the opposite: running stable at high latency (at least that's what I've noticed). I use 40ms (when I'm not using any hardware) and everything runs smoothly...
So: what vsti's are running when the problem occurs? |

the buffer is big because with 10 vsts (2 v-station,2 albino,3 pro53,1 absynth,1 superwave,1 disco dsp discovery,)and 35 audio channels things became croudy in the buffer +20 at least fx comps eq
you can imagine what happends in the cpu but the pc is very well setup for audio use imagine it only has audio progos in
and in playback i have 75% cpu usage exept some peaks that are very strong i didnt have this problems with the m-audio sound card only with the onboard
thats all orange

If you have (had) an m-audio soundcard, why did you change it to your MB soundcard, I guess that explains it, no? I also use this amount of vsti's and vst's and some are more responsible for problems than others. I've noticed that the superwave (pro trance) causes problems with high cpu peaks (especially when it starts running). The audiochannels shouldn't be a problem, I use 70-80 sometimes and it doesn't change a thing. Mind your reverbs and delays but you probably know that.
Try rendering more... perhaps? |

`yes audio channels arent a problem
reverbs and delays dont cose this i suppose the superwave is the problem i think i will stop use it its to hazardous for my cpu until i buy a sound card ive had enouph with this one thanks for your replay

I don't think any computer would survive 10 vsti's, 35 vst's and a bunch of audiochannels without pressing that button... But it's true: it's one hell of an important button! But even with that button pressed, the SW series peak your cpu. I just tried the SW-performer, that one is even worse (than the SW pro trance)! 45% cpu on its own on a p4 2.4 ghz!!! What were they thinking? |
