Bigger vs Smaller Parties...

Ok, so the age old question... Is bigger better? When it comes to parties this is a difficult question, cos no-one can deny they like like the sound of a 75K rig pumping into the summer air, but then you get a lot of people with issues bundled into the package. So, what's the consensus? Big, killer-rig parties? Or the little, family-vibe parties?

One of the best parties i've ever been to was the enchanted up on the way to Simons Town (i think), where they cleared some areas in a Jackaranda forest!! I think it was the one before the last one that's just been??? It was AWESOME!!! Really cool vibe!!

PS: The SA section of the site is dying, so please post if you wanna keep it alive!!

For me.... personally .. I don't really mind as long as the music is great.

I prefer the smaller parties... when I'm in that kind of a mood.... but then again.. the bigger parties can rip balls apart too.. if done properly...

As long as everything is kept real.. and insane at the same time... you'll see a fucked up smile on me face!

Peace!1

For me it is all about ppl. Connecting and having a good time. I not too clued up about the music. So as long as my tribe or new tribe members are around any party is good.

What is amazing is if you have a dj friend and get about 15/20 friends together head off to a farm and have your own personal trance party with the works. Making sure you have lighting, decor and just jol for the weekend.

I always prefer the bigger parties' sound. But you're right, it does come with it's own set of issues. But my opinion is if you don't like the big commercial parties, don't go to them. Simple.

Oh yeah and Nicc... you're a bee-yach.

yep... i think in this case size doesnt matter!!
Its the vibe thats the thing.. and wheter big or small the party can still have a good vibe.. what contributes to the vibe?... the setting, the music and the people

ps... yep gotta keep it alive in here!!

well i agree with p.g.c.
the vibe is the thing!

psychedelic formula:
music+people+soundsystem+setup=vibs

and you can find them on big or small events...
so it finaly depends only on yourself whats better for you           - last possible solution
- trick music
- ambivalent records

Aha, but trance itself sounds so much better when its being blasted out!!

but yeah, it ultimately depends on the vibe and the area of the venue....I'm taking JHB into consideration here.

We go to both smaller and bigger parties, and the experiences R different.Maybe they shouldn't be compared and pitted against each other, because they fall into different categories of the scene? We would hate to see either one ever replaced completely by the other for the whole season. With the rising number of artists and material falling into the dark/morning/minimal/progressive/break-beat factions this debate is going to get a lot more complicated in the near future!

i thinc that there must be some sort of level beyond which you don't actually need to go, for everybody's aural safety... i mean, a ripping kik thundering into your cranium at well over a hundred decibels, a few meters from the speakers... it ain't gonna be pretty for you in a couple of years. it is our only way of enjoying our favorite pastime, and sure, feeling music is one of the best parts of going to parties, but you don't have to stand on the speakers to feel it... i just stress most peeps will go deaf before we even get into the really, really hectic music. (even more than now, that is)
big parties are nice for looking at all the cute girls though... more peeps generally = more girls = more smiling guys.... hehehe...
small parties = more smoking circles, for sure...
but i thinc this motto covers most of it:
if you can't be good, be good at it...           Whether you thinc you can, or you thinc you can't... you are right. -Henry Ford-

Bigger is sometimes (mostly) better The better sound, the better artists, and the more the merrier people, hehehehe. I mainly dance at the back most of the time, cause yes those speakers can really damage those ears of yours. Only when the main act, or someones wicked set happens, then I'm front left!!

Small parties have their own special places in our hearts, but when I wanna hear super cool music and dance till me toes drop off, then BIGGER it is!!           :: Life can be as bitter as dragon tears
But whether dragon tears are bitter or sweet
depends entirely on how each man perceives the taste ::

hmmmm

you guys are comparing parties with lots of people to parties with smaller sound systems.

Ive been to some small parties with super fuck-off huge systems. Like the one on the west coast end of last year. There muat have been like 20 ppl on the dancefloor but the DJs were playing a live set and the music was ripping all the way into the horizon. Think the cops came in at some point in the night cause the music was reaching people on other farms. but the next day to was ripping out all the same.

small parties can cook!

i like 'em all...big and small ('scuse the rhyme)...but nothing beats kickin' up some dust with 5000 fellow tribespeople...the energy is da best!!
