539 closed....Barnegat township....hmm, it doesn't sound good. I think the area of concern isn't a testing area so it may have been spared. |

yeah, we've been following this all morning. thank god for the rain today!!!
from the initial reports, the blaze seems to be south of the area we are concerned about, but it is unknown how far north it has spread.
this is indeed very serious, and we will be monitoring it closely... |

I live down the road a ways and I think that the affected area is a little more southwest as karmakanik said. I have yet to survey the extent of the damage however. |

As long as the area we're worried about is safe, let's not worry too much. a forest fire can be a blessing in disguise, especially in pines where the soil is especially lacking in nutrients. forestfires play a crucial role in ecosystems such as the pine barrens. the ash is super rich in nutrients. |

Hopefully if there were any doubts that campfires a bad idea, this will extinguish those doubts (so to speak).

The pine barrens are HUGE.... it only burned a small area.... it was due for a burn, the trees are made to burn and different animals need it to happen in order to live :-D If it wasn't a flare i'd say it was just nature :-D |
