I have traveled to a few different states in the US for psy and have found that there's a similar feel, for the most part, but they have also always been smaller events. Numbers ranging from 100-200+ people. I have yet to attend an event that comes close to 1,000+. I really like the vibe that you can find in the smaller events, and generally the energy is more focused.

What about everyone else? Do you prefer the bigger events, say 500+ people, or do you find that it sacrifices the vibe and the energy?

i think there are pros and cons to either scenes, mainly pros since its nice to have ANY scene at all. I'll go to just about anything that is happening especially outdoors.. i just make sure to go at it with the intention of having a good time. of course it is more difficult to get a large group of like minded people as opposed to a small group.. but im also one to crave diversity and the unexpected that comes with larger events.           quantum frog, ca

There haven't been parties that big in the USA since the heyday of Synthetic Sadhus and Tsunami 5-10 years ago... Unless you count festivals and even then not too many. Unless SF or LA are having huge parties I'm not aware of.

So it's an academic question for many people in the USA since they have not been to such parties.

But anyway my answer is.. I miss the energy of the big parties but I enjoy the closeness of the smaller parties and have had more special moments both going to and throwing smaller parties.

I think he was talking about outside the US as far as big parties.           Jessica

I was really talking about parties outside of the US since we don't have parties that reach that size, IE 1,000+.

Jessica......the party in Mexico that I went to wasn't more than about 300 people. The vibe there was a little rowdy and a little unsafe as many of the people there got out of control and the headliners had to be promptly escorted out of the party for they were about to get bumrushed by the masses.

At this point I am very fond of the smaller intimate gatherings that bring familiar faces with a sprinkiling of new ones. It keeps the vibe familial which is beautiful. Just like Light-o-matic I also enjoy throwing the smaller events. Less craziness to deal with and its more personal.

Nomadics - Intention is paramount in any situation, and partying is no different. I have played with intentions, outside of just to have fun, and I have been really pleased with the results.

Psykomaniac - Would you say that you have found a glaring difference between the energy and the vibe from big to small? Doesn't it get more spread out, watered down so-to-speak.

Thanks for the responses so far guys.           Brian - Uhm

I definitely 100% prefer smaller parties. I feel that the vibe is much better, everyone kind of knows each other and it gives it a nice family feeling. Big parties often attract the wrong people (well people i just dont like, i.e.: candy ravers, crackheads). Also there's the environmental factor. Big parties will obviously create more trash, especially when you have people come from different scenes and they don't exactly respect the psy party attitude of a leave no trace event. Also big parties just create more tensions i feel. I.E: lack of parking and too many people entering some remote area can attract police attention. that my 2 cents

Your post is right up my alley in many regards. The energy and the vibe are intrinsically inter-twinded with the people you attract and promote to. My experiences are hit and miss with ravers. The same can be said with trancers as well, but the bad experiences with them are by far out-shadowed by the good ones.           Brian - Uhm

I have been to big parties with 2-3K (Goa), small parties (midwest) and everything in between (Gemini) and I love it all.

Every party has its own vibes. Its actually the people and not the number.

Again depends upon where this party is. Maybe in US, you will get lot of candy ravers in a big party but if you go to Europe there can be a big one with any candy ravers. Anyway, if I get 100 people and 2 are candy ravers and if I go to a party with just 50 but no candyravers - i think both will have the same effect and vibes. That extra 48 will completely negate the 2 ravers.

I love big party for the party feel (or when I just want to party) because its lovely to see 1000s of people getting down. Small parties are more fun when you want to meet the family.

i was going to big festivals most of my life, phish, dead etc. although that was fun and all but now find i particulaly enjoy the smaller ones. I DO not miss ticket lines, security chks and 500 people there just to score a sheet or make 3k on nitrous and leave the scene a mess. I like the feeling that im going to a friends house for a killer party that i just happen to have to pay for.......i feel i can be myself more at smaller parties and dont need to be always on the look out for law enforcement...

i guess the biggest psy party ive been to was gaian mind this year which i heard was 1500.......that was a comfy number for me, also everyone i met was way super cool.

at big parties, what i usually look for is the music and the vibes..........

as you know, some fried people kinda F&ck it up, but its all cool.......... fry'ness should be dealt with shanti.........

OhmshantiOhm, i agree with you as well............ small scenes are good as well, coz everyone knows each other........

best is, To create your own shanti...... chapora style .......

it doesnt matter as long as the majority of whatever size group has intent directed towards enjoying or gaining something out of it. id take a party of 5 people filled with intent to a 1000 person party for partiers. If the energy is being passed around in a respectful and positive way then it will blow away 1000 peoples chaos'. So you just have to keep the balance and lean towards positive intent and inspiring that in others.

gaian mind did I think like 1200 this year... something like that. I did really enjoy having like 300 people on the dance floor most of the time, it really made trance dancing a riot instead of kind of feeling obligated to represent. I know in the midwest where the numbers are smaller the party can lose alot of momentum if the dancefloor just clears out, but it happens because there isnt enough changing of the gaurd, where as at larger parties people are constantly coming and going so theres more people on the dancefloor at all times even if they are completely different everytime you roll up to it.

that said, I like the intimacy and bonding of smaller parties.. I have really bonded with my psy family at smaller events while the larger events I've been to have seemed more like free for alls where I didnt have time to get to know the new people as much since I was running into new people constantly. but even then I met new people, there is just no way to know everyone and I like to try and meet as many people as I can at events.

I've yet to hit boom so I'm afraid I cant really throw in input on a party much bigger than 1000. if we didnt have the damn rave act, we would definately be throwing massives somewhere stateside I'm sure

Word Chuck I am all about intent. I kicked expectations to the curb and haven't looked back since. Especially when it comes to throwing my own parties. If there's no intent, then for me there's not going to be an Atrium Obscurum party being thrown.           Brian - Uhm
