Full-on is still the the most popular style here right now.
There are three main organizers that host big full-on parties/festivals.

I think the biggest is Solstice. (www.solstice23.com). They bring artists from TIP world and such friends. They hold very big, commercial events. They have an annual summer 3-day festival at Mt. Fuji that is growing in popularity each year. Last year I believe there were around 10,000 attending, and I'm sure this year it will be bigger.

Visionquest (http://www.visionquest-tokyo.com/) is also credited with bringing the top notch artists. They bring many israeli artists (e.g. infected mushroom) and other popular acts like GMS. They also hold several big events each year as well as an amazing huge 3-day festival in the Japan Alps called "The Gathering."

The other big Full-on organizer is Arcadia. They bring the 3Dvision gang and others.

Minimal and progressive trance is growing in popularity, it seems. Organizers like Trance Progression (http://www.tranceprogression.com) and Stargate (http://www.stargate-universe.org)bring great artists of mostly these styles.

I find the open-air festivals here to be simply mind-blowing. I deeply appreciate my oppurtunity to partake in these fabulous parties!

I hope you can join us sometime Munchie!

Hi munchie this is Visionquest online here with you,
I was very surprised to see this email our friend Kaatisu have forgotten some of the other organizers in the scene.
Some history for you about 8 years ago visionquest started doing parties here in Japan
Together with Matsuri and Equinox, today Matsury is gone.
Some years later Solstice and other have joined the scene that is very big today thanks to all the organizers that are here today.
Last year festivals where amazing and left Japan as the biggest and most fruitful place fro trance in the world, almost all the artists are making here at list one time a year, from the smallest ones to the biggest act in our music area.
Japan had three big festivals last summer.
1- Solstice two days with a killer “Shpongle” live that rocked my senses, with 7,000 and some people, killer from hell worth checking out.
2- Equinox two days with “Juno reactor” and some other killer acts that had the most amazing deco that was scene until that event. Some 9,000 people cam to that event.
3- Visionquest which is us, we are the only one that had a full three days festival with Delta/GMS/Sun-project/Hallucinogen/Infected mushroom/and many more.
We try to bring as many trance acts as possible under our list we have worked over the years with al most every one.
Delta/X-Dream/GMS/Skazi/Exaile/planet-ben/minimiltz/Dino/joti/Bim/Miko/Jorg/sun-project/sonkite/Atmos/Kox-box/infected sapcecat/astral projection/hallucinogen/minimiltz/spairallianz/Noosphere/Neuromotor/psycheos
/James munro/and many others
the trance scene is some thing different here in Japan the people are different there for the energy is different you should defiantly come here and check it out at list for the summer festivals that we are closing every year with our “Gathering” Sep 21/22/23 Sep.
You are welcome to check our new website from Jun 1srt www.vision-quest.com
We have also having a party that day with infected, spacecat, bansi (GMS), planet ben, shulman, and many more, if you are coming to Japan you make sure that contact us I promises to take you on a trip with us and the others.
All the Best VisionQuest.

Hey Visionquest
Certainly no problem on the corrections - thank you (one of the beauties of this type of open forum is that bullshitters can be called! Ha!)
There are actually so many organizers of various sizes/types/histories that I would have to do a very big research project to mention them all. Ha!

Ya, I forgot about Equinox, somehow. I didn't go to the huge Mt. Hotaka festival, but I'm kind of glad I didn't given the horrendous organizational problems (e.g. getting those 9,000 people from the distant parking lot to the top of the mountain in a reasonable time) combined with the unfortunately wet weather.

Anyway, VisionQuest's The Gathering is definitely a mind-blowing weekend. One of the highlights of my life was going off to Infected Mushroom in the morning following such a powerful night. Thanks VQ!

hey guyz,
visionquest was good in filling out some more details, but don't forget the underground. Mindgames is a new organizer that just does outdoors parties and that focuses a bit more on the progressive sound and artists that have never come to Japan. We did our 1st one last, a full three-day event The Labyrinth, with Shiva Chandra, Son Kite, Auricular, Double Dragon, Human Blue, James Monro, Emok, Mapusa Mapusa + Fabio and others. Our next party is August 3-4. Our parties are nowhere near the level of VQ, Solstice, and Equinox, but they are still pretty cool. Not as powerful as the big boyz, but with longer more groovy afternoons. If you like long dj sets (3-5 hours) from real mixing masters, you should check out a Mindgames party. The next Labyrinth will be a 24-hour marathon with music from sunset to sunset. See you there!
For other organizers, I would recommend VQ for the most powerful music, Solstice for the most professional show, Equinox/Hotaka for the best decoration, and trancecafe and stargate for more of the underground vibe. And for something a bit different, i would recommend us! You can't go wrong if you come out to Japan for a summer!           the most interesting games are played in the mind...

Good luck Russ with your organization. I am looking forward to seeing your parties.
Yes visionquest i have been a big fan of for a long time. I have been to most of their parties. My friend DJ SUPREME, sometimes play for their parties.
Well in japan as Kaatisu said, full on is the most popular. But the underground scene is growing big.
Stargate, Trance Proggresion, Trance Cafe are trying to introduce new sounds to the Japanese trance scene.
Then we have so many other organizations, too many to list.
I have my own organization called AWAKEN, we do underground parties and People from organizations such as Stargate, G-Moloch, TranceProggresion come to visit.
Visionquest, Russ please come and check out our parties.
As for Labels, We have solstice releasing new stuff, GMS, Saiko Pod album, soon to come Synthetic album.
Manga I dont know.
Well this scene is getting bigger and bigger, This year i think will be the biggest party year for Japan. For those thinking of coming to Japan i guarantee that this summer is the time to be here.

.... you all forgot to mention 'TRUE TRANCE'! Yes they are small (Mad Factory.. they definatley have the 'feeling' and not the business!) .. The last party had ASTRIX & MINO..
Before this COSMOSIS, Release party for ALCHEMY RECORDS....
....so TRUE TRANCE should be on the Japan Trance Map as well.......
..also VISIONQUEST.... could you respond to my post in 'THE GATHERING' thread regarding last years VQ..? I've wanted the opportunity to 'ask u' directley as it kinda pissed me off..and I hope its not a regular practice!
