you know theres nothing to argue about 'coz its a matter of taste i guess and maybe things you are used too. sure there are issues now but they will be fixed, if you remember all microsoft OSs weren't ideal in the beginning, even our favourite XP has 3 big service packs. Believe me i was working on xp for quite a while to know what it is about
However i think its a good idea to start exploring Vista and learning its behaviour because this is the new os which will go the way XP did and take its place in future, you know. And if Vista works good here why not just use it.
To be honest with you guys i installed it because of DX10 hehehe.
I don't want to install XP again for now, however i accept the fact that maybe something will go wrong and i would like to uninstall it. And go to MacOS
But this is another thread.

MS realized that Vista not hit the market like they imagined it, but they learnt from their mistakes, at least.

... these issues will be fixed in Windows 8           http://www.myspace.com/realtimeproject

In my opinion, IF you want to stick to windows, stick to Windows XP.

In my experience the "Tiny XP - Beast Edition" (get the torrent from piratebay (of course only if you have an original)) is the most stable. It's english though, might be a problem for some, but anyway a good opportunity to train language for anyone.

If, as the initial poster, there araises the problem of a laptop without XP driver support it is mostly still possibly to install XP.

I experienced relatively often in the last time that friends bought new laptops (Acer, HP, Nonames) and had no XP support for it.

BUT most of the hardware is thirdparty in all cases! Thats why, with a lot of work, XP is almost always possible, so you get the chipset drivers from intel directly, grafixdriver from ati or nvidia.. that already gets you going. Mostly realtec audio drivers can be got too, wireless and Lan sometimes is difficult, but mostly there have been people before you doing XP installs on the same machine. Check google and the forums.

Thats the good thing with the PC world, everything is usualy possible IF you are willing to invest the time.

I'm not. not anymore... see you on the other side

By The Way: WaveRT

I'm not entirely convinced, but I read several things about it, some in the cubase forum, written from Steinberg guys, and some in the RME support newslist (not the forum) written from RME guys. They claim, that ASIO is doing for years, what WaveRT does. They say its similar and that sticking to ASIO is better because WaveRT brings the typical Microsoft unpredictabilities and bugs. RME doesn't plan to support WaveRT.

Thats what I memorized, but don't know if true.. I mean its clear that steinberg defends ASIO, since they invented it. RME on the other hand, they really know something about interfaces, drivers and OS.. so I actually tend to believe them..
