There are many synth that can be good for trance: * Roland JP-8080 * Roland JP-8000 * Virus B - 7,500 (nis) * Roland JX-305 * Walldorf Q
All of them are good for trance but you need to hear them and decide on what style of trance are you going for... |

Speaking of the XT (the orange one, right?). It says that it uses wavetable synthesis. But wavetable is actually a rompler, a sample playing synth. But it's not. So how does it work? Like a regular VA?

thing is, most virtual analogues are basically wavetable synths.. the samples in them are of the basic wavefiles and whast you do is alter them with the other componanets o create the sounds, analogue style dunno about the xt though |

Yo
in the xt you can make yer own wavetable by connecting the synth to the pc, with its software. (you can do it with emagic sounddiver3+ too..) you can take some waves, i mean just 1 cycle(or more if you wanna) with different changes (cutoff, sync, reso...whatever you want) and send it to the synth, the synth will learn to work with it as a osc or filter. very coo, hope u understood. check reaktor3, its very easy to use there...
think that all this you do in the osc section, you have all the filters/ring/env.. etc after it. xt has 3 osc btw. very coo synth by waldorf, liked the sound very much..
cheers. m0x. |

How can you forget Nordlead? It's the king of Virtual Analogue synths, and i'm talking about all the series. It's far far better than all the Virus Synths and maybe even some of Rolands'. |

Virus B is superior to the NordLead 1,2 & 3. check the info & specs. maybe the interface/general design can be a matter of argument, but in the field of features: numbers speak for themselves.

I don't know abot the specs, but the moment i put my hands on Nord 2 i started with really cool trancey presets and in seconds i managed to create some of my own. On Virus Indigo i tried 30 minutes to find something interesting but all i could find was some Daft Punk styles disco noises... Sorry didn't work for me |

presets are good if you don't want to create your own sounds.
technically in some things nord lead 2 is superior to the virus and in some not at all,
but virus is much cheaper :-)

Mind-Attack,
Just consider the fact that the Nordlead 2 has no internal FX (such as reverb and delay), and the virus have, so you would need to invest some more money in an external effect unit, or go for software effects, which aren't great at all.

i yam new hear i yam 3001 (._.)<----i have a big forehead
eh, but do not use internal effects on synths! that will kill your sound and make you sound like every other artist...as well as the nord 2 is very over used. I will suggest for great goa creation roland sh101, you will have to find one used as they do not make these anymore, but they are superb for goa arpeggiations, i think it's THE defining sound of goa(not of psy...)...all these other digitals are great instruments, but honestly if you're going to get a DSP based synth why not just buy a kick ass computer and a doepfer drehbank, in a little while those hardware digitals will be obsolete with better soft synths...i think the only thing to get hardware is analog+effects. if you want that infected mushroom sound look to a juno106(it seems like the only sound they know on the last 2 albums! egats!, i personally am sick of juno unison)...you might want to buy a nice sampler with a bunch of ram(64+) and a nice good analog to record so you can do kinda multitracking, but on a grandre scale, but then again you'll really have to know how to play keys...=)...but an sh101 would be great for sampling, alongside a tc electronic D2(excellent delay) sample that to hell, mangle with computer dsp effects or with sampler(if you want to go this route you should also pick up another nice fx box like a ensoniq DP/4, or if you're rich an eventide orville*droools*...or eclipse if you're rich but not that rich^_^...and then mangle some bizzaro sounds from yer analog, which i'd suggest an sh101 since it's a great begininer's synth and will sync to an eight note pulse. keep in mind going analog will not be cheap, but analog is truely better than VA, which is more cost effective, but in the long run, it's all about the sound isn't it? and if you can sample it(like 20 seconds worth so you don't have to sound like a nasty ole tracker, all static and poopish) you can have many of the same analog!^_^... |

That's cool, but i do have 2 things to say:
1.I own a Virus. It's a great piece of synth which emulates analog sound perfectly. It also have tremendous effects.
2.Infected are using a Nordlead 1 A LOT. The gathering especially is VERY Nordlead-ish. |
