I think Great River would be nice for synths because it can run transparent but it can also get very colored if you push it a bit. Never tried it but i know that this is the characteristics of the Great River.
Thats what i want from a preamp for my synths.
Right now i mostly use the pres in my Allen & Heath mixer. I also have a nice tube preamp (Summit Audio) and i think the pres in the mixer are really good. The only way i think that the Summit sounds different is when you drive it but imo id rather have a solid state pre for synths.
