you could also just have a sample making session, just make a sweeeps and strange sounding fx will recording knob movements live and build up a nice bunch of transitional samples for those types. Plus that way you can save the sample patches you used in the synths as a starting point for more in the future. The more you do it, the more options you'll have.

As far as drums, I'm partial to the Thomas Penton essential drums and percussion vol. 1

on top of that you'll learn how to make them in different ways which will last long after you've over used your sample cd

indeed... If u train urself during a few days u can make all the swooshes/fx that u want... And then u don't have to be afraid that someone else is going to use the exact same sample.

I would sample drums myself if i were u... There are zillions of drumloops on the internet (and no, drums don't háve to be high quality, on the contrary, sometimes drums just simply sound better in lo-fi), and then there are zillions of songs from which u can sample the drums... Even electronic songs sometimes have a moment where they allow u to sample the drums... Or make the drums urself (with drumsynth or stomper or orangator or...). After a while u'll get going with it and then u can make ur own unique drumsounds. I don't do it a lot, but sometimes i want some weird percussion and then i synthesize them myself and it's not that hard to make nice percussive sounds (as long as u don't try to reproduce the sound of real percussive instruments)... Especially with drumsynth... If u keep using sample cd's u'll never learn...
