iam not into this muzik for a long time now,but for me the best dj is DIMITRI NAKOV.....he has the best mixing skills far far away from the other djs....once i was lucky to hear him spining with 3cdjs and it was just ecstatic to hear to the 4track that he made out of it......

Well, I don't think, that there is no more psychedelic music around nowadays. There is a lot, that really twists your mind, like Prometheus, or the Origin Stage 3 compilation (the Tristan track!!), Slug's last album, MFG's last album, Optokoppler and others (feel free to add more here ).

I think the problem, that you never hear those tunes played at parties is because the people don't want it and they don't want it cos they don't really know it, cos it never gets played.
When I go on parties these days you either have proggy, which is ok but not mind-blowing, or you have fullon, which is more a kind of children's rave, or dark psy, which is psychedelic, but without much euphoria, emotion and musical elements. I think that's because the scene became so big, that now, like elsewhere, it became a "style" and "fashion" and the music is more the soundtrack to that than a guide to strange mental spaces. So, who needs psychedelic, twisted, mind-blowing sound for just a huge party-feeling? Well, today, only a very few, I guess.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to moan about the good old times, I just take it for a fact, that even the promising psychedelic-hippie-concept, which I I used to think of as a real standig alternative to the meat hook realities of the so called "real-life", just took the standard way. Like the other alternativ scenes - punk, gothic, hiphop, you name it - have taken before.

And another thing: When I watch most DJs at parties, they seem to be so into their routine, they don't really listen to the tracks they're playing. They seem to be just listening to the beat to get a decent mix and they will play anything of their "style" (like I said: style and fashion ), if it's new and got promoted by someone. And I have the suspicion, many of them are a little lazy and afraid of mixing tracks, that don't have the standard baseline and are hard to mix. But these are often the interesting ones.

But I think it's also a matter of time, until creative, psychedelic music will be more noticed again. I think, there many, many ppl out there - like myself - who are a little disappointed that you have the same style of music over and over again on every party. People who are sick of that Goa-Rave-Fullon and the stupid screaming speed-freaks it seems to attract. I'd predict, that the scene is going to split itself in lightly different scenes. And really psychedelic trance will be one part of it.

Well, at last to your question: I don't know many DJ-names (I never was interested as long as the music was good), so I can also only say: Pick me! I would tease your synapses goooood.

Stomp well then.           I love humanity but I hate people.

Pete Sideburner :

hehehh......lots of ppl around the world are stupid
because they listening fullon?

respect other ppl....man!

i love prog more than fullon... . but to be honest its not psychedelic music ...its repetative... some times boring..and not danceble like fullon

......prog cant be pure psychedelic because it got minimal sounds and non melodic....there is only psy elements

these days pure psychedelic music is filteria and his friends from suntrip rec.

you right about dj's....
also
one of the reasons that dj's not playing goa because its very hard....mixing and beatmatching

some times goa is too much psychedelic for majority of ppl!

cheers!

haha, Pete Sideburner. Post of the year! Subjective and true words. Thanks for the read. Alias, who said that people around the world are stupid because they listen to full-on? That was your words. ^^ And of course "prog" can be psychedelic, like all genres can be psychedelic made the right way. Minimalistic music like old progressive is maybe something of the most psychedelic friendly music you'll hear. Leaves a lot of space for that crazy imagination if you know what I mean Pete, good post.

I'm no expert in the progg division at all, but you understood my point I guess. And there are properlly much good psychedelic oriented music today as it was before.

It´s me you´re looking for

no... seriously... that´s what people have been telling me for years now that my DJ sets always are very special, experimental and challenging. The extreme opposite of the standard
but that´s also the reason why nobody or hardly anybody books me anymore
what an open minded scene

There you are!! I hope one day we can meet and exchange ideas and even play a set together

Although I dont normally like this style of psy usually I have to agree. Nakov is a truly amazing dj......his mixing is downright flawless and I always find listening to him very uplifting. Now this is one guy who doesnt have to hide from any other dj, in or outside the psyscene. Imo he deserves alot of respect for his skills, many people should listen and learn.

Whatever people say (many people seem to not like him, dont know why), I also find Shawnodese quite experimental and interesting. Heard him a couple of times in Berlin and enjoyed it.

Another guy propably not many people know about is Dj Nikyar from Sydney. Im not too sure if he is still around, but a few years ago he used to kick my ass at many parties Very psychedelic track selection and mixing, and very nice guy. Also Sylk from sydney, sometimes a bit more progresssive but also with his own distinct style. No cheese prog, nice atmosphere and sweet flow and skills imo. If im talking about Sydney Djs got to mention Raptor also good psy dj and nice guy

from your nick and description of desired dj i'd guess you'd prefere some cartoon mix of rinkadink and sienis

anyway, 1 year back i created (i hate this self promo but what can i do if i dont know such other mix;) ) a djset that is usually considered as dark. personally i consider it p s y c h e d e l i c...

see the tracklist and comments here, maybe you'd like to try...
