Which program is best for working with audio, what i want to do is convert my vst synths to audio and slice it up and work against the timeline. I´ve worked a bit with
fruity loops but i get stuck when i want to copy my audio.

ProTools got some special modes more for the grid.
But I think you can do your work 'against the timeline' in most sequencers. Certainly it works fine in Cubase or Logic or Renoise.

For this I would recommend Ableton 9.. you freeze the channel, drag the midi sequence to an audio channel and it converts to audio, or you hold in ctrl - something like that. Keeping everything organized and neat is also it's specialty.

Cubase as well, you can extract groove patterns out of audio files , or the other way around slice up audio and attach it to any predefinied grid. You can also convert audio to midi, it can do anything your heart desires regarding audio without any other plugs           Check out my album: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/gay-satanic-hippie-tiefenrausch

I have cubase, is there a function where you can slice a loop to 16th notes?

Of course, in the sample editor there is the slicing function. You can autodetect slices which is the most useful on drumloops for example, or you can slice to 16th or any other groove pattern. Its really easy, for details check out the manual for audio slicing.

I find the manual is actually pretty useful if you are looking for specific things. Which version do you have of Cubase? Audio slicing is available for a long time already, if you dont have an ancient version it should be no problem.           Check out my album: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/gay-satanic-hippie-tiefenrausch

it's easy enough in any daw software these days...

logic's got the flex time thing, ableton's got the warp engine (that's just about the same thing with a different name), protools with elastic time, so forth and so on...

Great response thanx, will check your suggestions.
chopping with cubase sounds great, the only thing that bothers me with cubase is that you can only import one sound at a time. With fruity loops it´s easier to go trough samples and import them.
