What are in your opinions some of the best produced pop songs ever?

I thought about this and the one that came to mind first is Michael Jackson - Black or White

I guess this goes down to what is or isn't pop.... for me faithless is also pop, and so is britpop... so i would have to say faithless and blur are probably high up there also. Funkstorong on some of the stuff also for sure.

what do you think?

Quincy Jones did a superb job on Michael Jacksons work.. regardless of what you think of the man or his music, that production was tight.

I know that engineers are trained to get the best sound out of bands and singers, but honestly I wouldn't know where to start with microphones and getting the best from real recordings.. so in a way I'm more impressed with non-electronic productions.

Some other great and/or visionary for the time production work (in my opinion) albums and singles (*).

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Paula Cole - Where Have All The Cowboys Gone*
Bjork - Joga*
Radiohead - OK Computer
Seal - IV
Crowded House - Together Alone

I'll ignore a lot of very modern pop as it all sounds exactly the same and compressed to hell.

I have to just say that Robbie Williams new album - Rudebox is some of the worst music I've ever heard, however he must have paid a mint for the production because it is completely amazing. Heard it in my girlfriends car... honest.

I'd choose "Madonna - Confessions on a dancefloor".            Peace, Love, Death metal

I like "you owe me nothing in return" from alanis... I think it sounds bombastic, but its a beautiful song too.

Also like heather nova stuff. Sounds incredibly "silky" but its not pop in the sense of "madona" anymore..

air albums for me always ooze class and have great production, music ain't that bad either...

Personally however I really dig Rammstein - Reise Reise, so much power, really massive sound!           I don't use ideas. Every time I have an idea it's too limiting, and usually turns out to be a disappointment. But I haven't run out of curiosity. -RR

Prodigy - Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. That was the best electronic mixed pop album I've heard in a long time ... production and composition.

Madonna - Confessions on a Dancefloor has HUGE sound. And the guy that mixed it is only 25 or something. talented dude!

thought some more and for sure garbage's first two albums were awsome pop...

and if we mentioned michael jackson black or white, then we can't forget Billy Jean... less going on in that one but also close to perfection.
