What could be the best vsti for orchestral sounds? mostly looking for realistic string sounds (not choirs, nor brasses)?? does anyone have any preferences?

used to use sy77 for this purpose, but got rid off it, and now i kind of regret it. so i'd appreciate anyone pointing me to the right direction.

thanks

samplers tend to have that digital pitchshifting artifact, when sample is played accross keyboard (on different octaves). now i heard you have mentioned kontakt, and it got me curious, how well this issue is resolved in it. i have done major league sampling in the early days, and that digital artifact, which persisted among many brands of samplers i owned (akai, yamaha, emu) kind of killed it for me (aside from the fact that samplers lack the expressivenes of the real thing). this is the main reason i don't sample (organic instruments) anymore.

now the questions is: is it worth for me to spend that $399 and get another sampler (kontakt in this case)??? or should i look elsewhere???

before, for orchestral sounds i used to layer sy77 with cs6x, and i've gotten kickass sounds out of them running side by side. but sy77 is gone now, so are the killer orchestral patches it was loaded with, and i'm pretty much stuck with cs6x (which has nice but not great orchestral sounds). now i could take some time and program patches on it, but who has the time.

doing quick search on the web for vsti, i bumped into CheeseMachine (or something), and just like its name said - it sounded cheezy (no offense).

anyway, i will look into legacycell and motu si, possibly kontakt. but if you do have any other preferences, that be greatly appreciated.

well, thanks all for your input
cheers

I found this

http://www.synful.com/Sounds/Synful_Plays_Beethoven_Quartet.mp3

And to me this sounds more realistic than anything I've heard before....I cant believe its synthesized even though i know it is!
The other parts of the orchestra sound pretty bad imho but the strings are to die for.
I think because it's pretty hard to get a totally realistic performance in terms of expression with sample based instruments, but with a realistic synthesizer you have much greater control over the sound itself
definitly worth checking out

Lord Deo - its depend on how real do you want it to be,if you want the real thing than go buy Sempler with sample CD's and if you want close to it than use vsti.

here is the best vsti you can find for live sound

*Applied Acoustics Systems
- String Studio
- Lizerd
- Tassman

*Korg
- Wavestation

*Edirol
- Orchestral

*Revity(synth)

and here is the real thing

*EWQLSO Platinum pro (about 3000$)
*EWQL Symphonic Orchestra GOLD EDITION

for more samples CD's

this is the shit, it costs bucketloads on HD-space (huuuuuuge sample-library), but it sounds the most realistic they ever heard at SOS... It's actually the first plugin that is viable to reproduce real orchestral sounds... Specifically aimed at the movie-market ofcourse, where they use it extensively (has been used in multiple recent movies) because u only have 1 person in front of a pc to pay instead of a whole orchestra Anyway, i think it was this library they were raving about...
