Hi

Wether you get an athlon or a pentium, Just get an ASUS Motherboard.

They are maybe a bit more expensive, but this is almost the most important factor of you setup.

If you don't buy asus, Just DON'T BUY shuttle. In no case never... they are cheap but also nothing than rubish..

In my career I had three asusboards, all perfectley working in high performance... my shuttle boards.. also those of friends are just bad, crashing bad performance...

I prefer pentium because of the new 800MHz FSB and because they are cooler (temperature) than the AMDs.. they need less power... this means your fans can rotate slower which gives you more possibilty to have a low noise PC which is nice for soundproduction.

But in any case, before you get a motherboard - processor combination go to google.com enter your motherboards name and "review" you will find reviews for sure. Gamersreviews often are quite good because they want power.

Good luck
Raphael

With an array of advanced technology the Asus A7N8X (Deluxe) provides a revolutionary audio/video experience...it's the best motherboard in the market for AMD processors.

Buy it!

I know that some features are useless for audio production, however it doesn't mean that you have necessarily to used them.

I think you can disable your on-board audio processing unit (on bios),after doing that install your own sound card and work without any problem.

BTW this is the one who support the famous firewire port.

well i own a asus a7n8x deluxe. i also thought it'd be a good board for sound production...well, it isn't. i had a QDI board before that worked very well. now with the asus a7n8x deluxe i always lose some sync with asio test. even if i disable all audio and lan (bios) it still loses some sync. with other words.
onboard audio & lan enabled: sync lost 5-10, buffer 1-3
onboard audio & lan disabled: sync lost 1-3, no buffer lost
any suggestions how i could fix this problem?

check the Zenith CHAINTECH 9CJS ????

I got one yesterday for 130$ American.......
I checked reviews, and seems very stable, in cases better than Asus P4C800..... price is bad, but on ebay you can get it CHEAP

It features everything you could want,
including 6-1 smart card reader, optical inputs, very good sound comparable to audigy and overclocking abilities........

Damn!
Guys i also bought the A7N8X - deluxe thinking it was the best choice for a stable PC,am i going to have serious problems?

Mithril what do you mean with these words:

Onboard audio & lan enabled:sync lost 5-10,buffer 1-3
Onboard audio & lan disabled:sync lost 1-3,no buffer lost

???

I'm really pissed off because i achieve this one with the main interest to use the new Audiophile Firewire in it (wich i'm going to buy in a few days).

Thanx for helping me.

No... You can still make music but the connection between the software and the soundcard is not guaranteed; there might be some gliches in the audio that you can't fix with buffer adjustments, etc.

I have an ASROCK mobo (K7S8XE) and I have had no problems. Very good for overclocking too.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
