as most of you know.........a lot of the "live acts" are questionable at best........as being considered a real live set.......

so......who would you consider the best live act?

for me it would be Ticon, eclyptic and son kite......

simon is not too shabby himself....

the biggest questions in electronic music:

1.how to define a electronic live set?

2.is a 100% live set (everything is played live, no sequnecers etc allowed. playing live as other genres bands do) possible without stripping down the tracks or hiring tens of people on stage to play, tweak, mix... stackloads of electronic equipment ?

3.is a electronic live even necessary?
isn't the whole purpose of electronic music that computers, sequencers, synths do the job with human beings controlling them?

so it depends on how you answer question number 1.
for me it's not so important what happens on stage. i fully accept that a 100% electronic live is very hard to achieve because you a) have to hire lots of peeps to do it or b) strip down your sound. i'd rather change the term "live" to something else like "performance" or "live mix" which in my opinion suits the happening better. but i also don't think it's ok that artists play doom or fiddle with photoshop while they play a pre-recorded mix from a cd-r. on the other hand it's hypocrisy from son kite to boast that they're live and others not cause from what i've witnessed there's just a bit more live than what average bands do: just as much mouse fiddling but more violin playing here and there. hallucinogen isn't live either if you come to think of it: eq'ing and efx'ing sounds on a mixer that come straight from a multitrack recorder isn't that live either. in fact i haven't seen a totally live electronic set in my life.
and if you now say you didn't mean THAT MUCH live than what's the point of discussing the whole idea in the 1st place?

im sorry.......was there an answer in there somewhere....if there was...... i missed it

and its not hypocrisy from son kite to claim they are a "live act".....

i dont like hearing negativity from most people.....but the claims made from son kite.....IMO.......will undoubtedly make a few artists think twice on their "live acts".....

and if just ONE artist changes and improves his "live act"........then it was worth it for them to come out with their criticism.....

if it would have been a negative criticism with no solutions and only for the purpose of degradation......then i wouldnt of been ok with it.....but that was not the case....

i believe as a result of it......better "live acts" will come about.....

in other terms: i haven't seen one.

all clear now?

and a little bit more of son kite (ofcourse this is the wrong topic): what they try to achieve is good but they do it in the wrong way: it's important to discuss the totally fake lives but it's wrong to put oneself on a pedestal at the same time especially when one doesn't deliver the goods (my personal opinion ofcourse).

Still with playback elements, but you really can't beat having a band on stage playing real instruments. The audience knows it too!           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Are we talking about a push the button live performance here? Or real live where real musicians actually play some instruments? If the last option apply then this:

Semi live:

Juno Reactor
Eat Static

Real live:
