Well...activated my legit copy of Massive (free with Maschine 1.8 update) and experimented with it today. Made some brilliant kicks...Ultrabeat does not allow for two ADSRs to modulate the pitch of a single oscillator...whereas this does and it sounds, well...MASSIVE!

Found the hack to sort out very fast attack and release times with no clicking.

Got a great bassline out of it while I was at it.
And the kick frequency is tracking the keyboard as well.
Can't believe the day has come that I use something other than Ultrabeat, for kick creation.
I just opened up a whole new world of kick drums and I am excited

hey,you can get real deep with my "legit" copy of massive ...not to be underestimated low end punch u can achieve for kick drum ..we all underestimate it ..assumption is the mother of all fuck ups..so they say

massive is amazing for drums ! just sad envelops are not more versatile.. for psy bassline it s one of first choice too

ultrabeat is good though but synth like zebra massive you could list almost all good synth there are cleaner imo , i think i like more es2 too.

but for a kick fast wihtout hassle ultrabeat or bazzism are good.

last one i used is diversion to make kick.. this one have big potential

They seemed just fine to me yesterday.
Ultrabeat's envelopes are my favorite for kick drums, but Ultrabeat only allows for one envelope to modulate the pitch of the oscillator, whereas you can have more than one envelopes modulating the pitch of one oscillator in Massive.
Another really comfortable thing is that when you make a kick at F# for example, it is real time generated and tracks the keyboard, great +.
I just made my first one yesterday, the sound is not always clean and that not only depends on how you've set your envelopes and by the modulation index, but where you've set the phase of oscillator to re-trigger, is extremely crucial in order to avoid getting "double" clicks on the attack.

All fun and games on a very powerful and brilliant sounding soft synth, where my demo version crashed after 30 minutes and I did not spend time programming it, smoking a phat one. Now it just works and I can tilt the studio chair back and smoke whilst programming the thing without stressing about time

Great for that plastic "Dickster-like" bassline. Clean and phat as you like.

Great for that plastic "Dickster-like" bassline. Clean and phat as you like.

yeah just 1 envelop always bothered me a bit in ultrabeat but it get the job done just fine for that kick sound.
es2 sound almost 100% like utrabeat and offer one more envelop but more tricky to set up.. ub is great for how fast you get a good result that does the job, in 5 minutes the kick is made and processed from scratch.. on synth sometimes i spent few hours just on a kick preset when trying to get the best out of it..sometimes not sure it worth it when ub and bazzism get great result in no time..but i like programing drums..

btw about dickster i tried to match his phat kicks that he use on some tunes, i matched that sound more or less but just for curiosity i wonder what he use to synthetize them if it s not sample

about massive it s good choice for bassline but the plastic caractere still turn me off a bit.. if you look at it, in softwares there is mostly only logic synth that dont have plastic sounds to me.. but they sound kinda earlier technology in a way..

really thick sound on the hipass

Ok so Env hack nectarios, you muting the amp env and using the performer to do the VCA envelope

Nope, that just the Nord Lead 1 on its own. My mate Audioform with which we are doing the Ohmnidrive tunes together, has a Nord Lead 3, it sounds nothing like it.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, the Nord Lead 1 is the best sounding Nord

Yes the hack is to mute envelope 4 controlling the amp module and assign the performer to negatively modulate the oscillator amp parameter.

Here is the youtube clip with the hack @ 2:30 approx. He explains it all.

this is not needed it generate too much high imo, you can try to just use a spare envelop with fastes attack and very fast if not the fastest decay on pitch when you need more snap on massive. for pluck or drums .. using the performer as envelop and bypassing the amp envelop is really a pain to scult sound and in the end dont really give better result from test i did, i did even bassline like this but i stoped used this technic personaly it s not needed when fine tuning well the envelops

yeah but you onlu use that hack for the bass really and you dont need any movement

plus i think its about time folk started using wavetables and other osc types for psy bass, makes more sense to tweek the origional source than fire it through a shit load of plugs
