i would NOT reccomend seenheiser hd-80,
they may be good for listening or DJ-ing, but not for production,
they have too many high-freqs, and after pruducing music with them u will be badly surprised when listening it on monitors or usual speakers...

i write music usign AKG k-141 monitor, they are not expensive but have good frequency response, so when i mix my tracks on monitors after, i hear something that sounds like what i heard in phones=)

Usually headphones are an extra tool for you to produce. Nobody is supposed to mix a track only by using them. Even top brands models aren t capable of it. So, be aware that you d use them together with monitors. They can tell you details such as stereo image, reverb depth, punchness etc
I have and recomend sennheiser HD555. Their not the top of the top from sennheiser, but they sound amazingly nice. They are many times better than akg240s, which I replaced by the 555.
You can also choose between HD580, 590, 595, 600, 650 and maybe some latest opone. It will depend on your budget.
I paid around U$120.
Another nice ones are the Sony mdr7506 or 7509(although their ear cups are a little smaller and less confortable).
