if the layers works well it s not a issue but all benefits , you may need less equing in the end and get a sound with more depth at same time.
layering is really helpfull for this, but i dont use it for psytrance much, it s not really needed like in minimal or dnb, to much depth in the drums take to much space for the synths line, except if you are into minimal or teckish psytrance , minimal prog... there i guess it could be usefull to layer a lot ,there is room for it |

No thud at the beginning when sweeping from high frequencies! Clearly shit!

yup. that is also what makes those goa laserkicks so awful to dance to.
i'd really appreciate if someone could point to to a nice tutorial for layering kicks. i've tried often, but never had any success with that... |

I'd love too ... but writing a tutorial on layered kick drum creation is actually bloody difficult!
There are so many variables ... and a course, a good kick is only as good as how well it ties up with the bass.
Are we talking layered samples or layered synthesis?
What style of kick? Old skool astral projection, fool-on, dark, new goa ...
I'll be happy to help as best I can, but believe me when I say although the technique is fundamentally very similar across the board, the specific tweaking is wildly different!
I'm wary of writing a tutorial that doesn't really give anyone but myself a kick they want and puts people off a technique that actuallym us right in principal. .

i'd personally be interested in synthesis and new goa (or some of the heavier old goa) kicks.
but i guess the technique can be easily adapted to other styles. so i don't want anyone to spend a lot of time explaining if there are already good tutorials on layered kick synthesis out there (which i'm sure there are) that just focus on a more or less different style. |
